Why are the words of this song not listed?
I was listening to the La Cave recording and for the life of me, I can't understand why they are not there...does he not take credit for this song? This conflict that we are involved in now is a good reason for us to listen to this song again. may God bless all. [This message has been edited by gwen snyder (edited April 01, 2003).] |

Re: echoes of heroes
Echoes Of Heroes
Now the echo of the heroes is heard everywhere In the conflict of old in the times of despair All down through the ages the voices do ring They cry out of victory and of freedom they sing CHORUS And the echo of the laughter and the songs that they sung (sang) The whine of the steel and the roar of the guns And the tolling of the bell and the cries of the lame And the echoes of heroes roll down through the ages to remind us again In the fields of Flanders the brave ones do lie At Verdun and Ypres where a million men died From the Marne to the Somme to the Normandy shore Their spirits go marching where the wild eagles soar On the land, in the sky, in the oceans they come All onward they march as the drummers do drum Their faces are bloody and their weapons are worn Their bones are all shattered and their bodies all torn CHORUS Must this be the road we are travelling yet Must this be the time when nations forget All the sons and the fathers who joined in the fray To be killed and destroyed and be buried in the clay |
Re: echoes of heroes
This is another piece of classic material that so clearly relates to the tension we're caught up with today in this crazy world.
"Must this be the road we are traveling yet." How much more definitive can it get? Another one is "Face of A Thousand People." Written way ahead of it's time. Neither of these songs made it onto an album but the good thing is that they're available on the internet which gives us an opportunity to appreciate so much more the musical genius of Gordon Lightfoot. |
Re: echoes of heroes
Wow! Thanks for these gems!
