Would anyone know if any of Gords lyrics might amplify this theme. My refresh button just needs hitting, I guess.

Some thoughts put to prose I'd never seen before this morning . . . coupled w/John Stewart's Recipe for Flight (to me.)

from Melody Beattie

"Everyday I have before me many choices. It isn't easy to choose, for often the choice means letting go of the past - sometimes even the present.

I know what the past was, and I know what the present is, but choices always propel me into the future. And I'm not sure what the future is or if I'll make the right choices.
It's not easy to let go, you know. It's not easy to fly into the future.

It's like the space between trapezes. Becoming free is not knowing whether you're going to be caught, not knowing whether you're going to fall.

It's not easy to live in trust and faith, and that space between trapezes requires both. I must admit that sometimes my faith gets shaken, but I pray and I hope I'll make good decisions.

I hope that I'll be caught, and I will not fall. But I never know for sure. All I know is that every day I have before me many choices.

The Space Between Trapezes."

from John Stewart

HAND YOUR HEART TO THE WIND

There's always one more river the sea can carry
There's always one more soul that heaven can hold
There's always one more star the sky can hang on to
So hand your heart to the wind, let it carry you home

There's always one more song to sing for the lonely
There's always one more dream to carry you along
There's always one more eagle come flying in the morning
So hand your heart to the wind let it carry you home

So, hand your heart to the wind
Let it carry you away once again
Hand your heart to the wind
Let it carry you home

There's always one more reason to keep you braving
There's always one more angel to carry you home
There's always one more rainbow, anywhere that you go
So hand your heart to the wind let it carry you home

So, hand your heart to the wind
Let it carry you away once again
Hand your heart to the wind
Let it carry you home

Let it carry you home
Carry you home

Tonight, I fly.

That post reminds me of a quote, which I love, since it's the way I live my life now.

Birds make great sky circles
of their freedom.
How do they do it?

They fall, and falling
they're given wings.
Jalal something or rather..sorry can't remember the last name...

Hey Rez,
Upon reflection, perhaps the lyrics to East of Midnight come close to expressing this.
Gord calls it a song about being adrift...
Maybe from his perception, being adrift is akin to being in the space inbetween....

LSH,

Thanks about East of Midnight. I took a re-look at those lyrics and I agree w/ you.

The whole concept of "Space Between the Trapezes" fascinated me when I first read it recently. Still does.

I figure anything that fascinates me already fascinated someone else long ago, and they, in turn, put things to verse - even when I've been unable.

PS:

And thanks for that marvelous quote. I guess that's what I'm after. The freedom that comes from having let go of what has come before - which is dangerous.

Being adrift toward the future would be dangerous. The choices made in-between letting go and finding are dangerous.

So is life dangerously present.

You're welcome Rez. I'm glad you posted this thread, the concept fascinates me as well.
What we know represents security, so of course, we want to cling to that. I've been consciously practicing letting go for the last two years. Now I find my biggest problem is where to go and what do. SO much going on around me and in my head! I get overwhelmed by the possibilities and have trouble focusing in one direction. I really try not to be whichever way the wind blows, but it's a challenge! But I'm more content within myself, I think, than I've ever been.
Still don't know what the heck I'm doing, lol. Just no longer uptight about it..
