Following up a lead in another yahoo group message I found this old poster
http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/images...R781124-PO.jpg The caption on the wolfgang's vault page at:- http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/Catalog.aspx?VenueID=AMR is:- Gordon Lightfoot Nov 24, 1978 Poster $58 |
Wow. That's the theater where I went to my first GL concert! It was before that though, either 1970, or 1971 is my recollection. I didn't get to go to that particular show, not sure I had known about it.

Hey, I bought that poster from Wolfgang's Vault about a year ago! It was pricey, and I'm dying to get it autographed.

I thought myself that it was an amazingly good rare photograph of Gordon when younger and have saved it because with cropping and a modicum of editing it will form the basis of another fine made up album cover/CD jewel case insert design:-
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/...lbum_cover.jpg Thinks has anybody seen that zoneranger character recently??? |
OK OK I have now done a "dummy" run
I firstly used a good picture editing program (MGI Photosuite) to crop the original again but this time cropping to a more suitable square version plus a small square of the background (to use to cover all of the remaining lettering). I then used my favourite desk top publishing programme Serif Page Plus 6 The SE version is available completely free from http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/sof...us/default.asp I was able to create a plain unletterred blank with a maroon colored border onto which I could at some future date add my choice of text I then faced the usual problem of deciding what font to use I rather liked the original poster's font as used for Gord's name and recognised it as the same used on an old Everly Brothers compilation CD, which I had previously scanned to try to find its font:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/EVERLY_BROTHERS.jpg I then used a wonderful free detection service WTF (where this time that is a three letter acronym for "What The Font") as offerred by a fonts site as an aid to selling fonts:- http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ and browsed for my Everly scan then uploaded it and their on line program analysed the sample, which is apparently called a glyph and as you can see they found an exact match in their database, http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/WTF.jpg a font called Exotic 350 Bold for which they wanted $24.75.Never one to pay for what might be available for free I googled for "Exotic 350 Bold free download" and found it at:- http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts-e3.html which includes exotic 350 bold as a right click downloadable true type font file Exotic 350 Bold BT.ttf 35KB which I placed in my C:\windows\fonts folder from where it is now available to any program's fonts menu Therefore http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts.html has joined my three previous finds a good free site goldenweb at:- http://fonts.goldenweb.it/index_file...ts/default.htm http://cooltext.com/Fonts http://www.dafont.com/ All l now needed to do was reopen my Page Plus basic blank file and add some sample text in the maroon color that I had already selected for the frame:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/at_a_theatre.jpg |
Re: wolfgang's vault
I am replying to my own thread to bring it to the top again as I am about to refer to my font detection and aquisition procedure in a planned contribution to "Mother Superior" (the big hearted lady they call "githchewhatsit") Ruth's love songs project. watch this space!!

Re: wolfgang's vault
I just love that poster, and had Gordon sign it for me when I was in Milwaukee. It's now hanging in my office where I can see it everyday. :)

Re: wolfgang's vault
I don't really have anything to add
http://forum.mininova.org/style_emot...thingtoadd.gif But thought I'd bring this one to the top for the benefit of anyone else who might have missed it. Be sure to check out the 1968 concert too; use this link.. there are others too, I just found this one first... http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread...ighlight=vault |
Re: wolfgang's vault
Mercy! Saw the $425 poster of Gordon..but the Jim Marshall photo...$6,000 WOW. It's a great photo and photographer (signed too) but for that $$$$...could have gone towards buying a nice Martin guitar, signed by GL.
