In the GL song Gotta Get Away, he says he's going to grab his hexagram. What is a hexagram?
|
Good question. There is a short answer and a long answer, the long answer, of course, being more informative.
short answer: It's a shape. The dictionary defines it as: a figure formed by two intersecting, equilateral triangles. (think, Star of David) Long answer: the hexagram is a stellated shape, meaning it is star-like in appearance. The downward triangle is said to represent the grace of God,while the upward pointing triangle is man's aspiration for a glimpse of God. The two triangles also represent fire and water, and are said to show the interplay between the higher state of individual thought and the lower. The points of the star represent 6 planets. which are, starting at the top and going clockwise: Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Moon, Mercury, Mars, with the sun in the middle. This order of planets is based on the qabalistic Tree of Life. The symbol dates back further than Jewish use, way back into antiquity. As the Star of David symbol, it represents the divine shield, God as the protector of David. you can cruise the internet and find all kinds of information on this shape, which seems to have a lot of mystical interpretations. It was once used a magical, mystical decoration etc etc. Google it and see what you find. happy hunting L |

Maybe he was playing checkers?

HA! Maybe he was. LMAO.
Thanks for the chuckle Stationmaster. |
Or maybe he had his "hexagram" or linear chart which was used by the ancient Chinese to predict the future, much the same as tarot cards and other fortune telling devices.
Pronounced "Ee Jing", I Ching, the Book of Changes is about 5,000 years old, and as such, is one of the oldest available sources of spiritual wisdom. ------------------ "The station is for travelers even you must ride someday" |
Don't you think you and (he/I) are too "old" to be playing checkers?
|
Not when you/he has lightfingers! lol

You are never too old to play Chinese Checkers or Monopoly. Been searching for a man who knows that most of my adult life.

fascinating history lesson, but I suspect given the context that he was referring to a diagrammatic representation of the guitar strings. Has to do with tablature.
|
A hexagram is the diagrammatic representation of the guitar strings.
Given the context I suspect that's the appropriate meaning. |
Enigma,
Thanks! Very interesting. think I've seen this, but as I know nothing about guitars, I had no idea what I was really looking at. The minute I read your post, the diagram popped to the front of my mind. L |
He is without a doubt speaking of his guitar.

Yes it has something to do with "Modes" and "Scales". I don't know anything about theory so I cannot comment any further. Anyone into music theory?
