Does GL (or any artist, for that matter) ever listen to their own music just to enjoy it as we do (not listen to see if they can improve or to tell if they sound good or not) but for the same joyful experience such as ourselves?

If not, I wonder who Gord does like to listen to? :confused:

I find your poser to be quite interesting.

Of course, I have no idea if he listens to his own music or not. But I highly doubt that he can ever hear it without being somewhat critical of himself. He probably finds flaws in something we consider perfect. Such is the life. Perhaps some of the musicians in this arena could share their insights on this subject.

So James....how did you become a Lightfoot fan at your age ? Shouldn't you be listening to "50 cent", "NIN", "Tool", or "Traxxamillion" ? Just kidding... Lightfoot will stand the test of time.

Gordon listens to his own music, but I'm sure far less than you all do.

bob dylan has admitted lots of times that he never listens to his albums after they come out

I don't know that he's ever satisfied with what he's recorded (witness the re-recordings he's done of earlier stuff) but mostly I think he's too busy looking forward, planning performances, rehearsing, doing a little writing, enjoying his friends and family etc. to sit around listening to his own work much.

First,yes I think he does. He listens to the playback in the studio when recording of course. As for at home,I doubt that but if so it's most liely to see where he's been and where he could go next. :)

I think it's great that James has discovered and appreciates an artist (or maybe even more) from before his time. It's no surprise to me,I see kids 20 years younger than me wearing Led Zepplin,Beatles & Doors shirts everywhere,as well as other acts we all know.

When I was around James' age,I listened to my parents and grandparents music and still do. 1900-teens through early '60s.

Then I & my brothers took it from there 1964 - present.

Didn't he say somewhere in the booklet that comes with Songbook that he hadn't listened to the UA recordings in many years, and he had to listen to them when deciding what was going to go on Songbook? Or am I just imagining it?

If you consider the number of times Lightfoot has performed his work (writing, in the studio, concerts, sound checks, warm-ups, and practice), I imagine he'd be rather "bored" with them. I know he enjoys performing them for his patrons, but I can't imagine him listening to them in his leisure time.

Regardless of the song, there are few that I can say I've listened to over a hundred times, much less a thousand times.

One of his roadies, who shall remain nameless, once told me that when Gordon has a party, or a get-together, he only plays his own music for his guests. Odd. Neither of us were all that impressed. Maybe just a foible?

When his daughter Meridth lived with him, I'm sure he heard her playing and listening to his music so she could perform it on line and other places.
