I was driving to work this morning listening to the songbook disc with Seven Island Suite on it. I thought to myself, I'm going to have to drive down to the lake some day soon at sunset with all the leaves turning in the crisp autumn air and turn Seven Island Suite up in the car CD player and watch the sun set over the lake.

Early Morning Rain - in the early morning rain. :D

10 Degrees/Colder - on a cold winter day.

Song/Winter's Night - on a cold winter night.

Alberta Bound - on my trips home to Canada.

Yeah, I want to stand on Whitefish Point and stare at all those waves on Lake Superior in November and listen to The Wreck. Then go to the Shipwreck Museum.

Well, I plan to be to the annual lighting of Splitrock Lighthouse this November on the 30th anniversary of the Fitz's demise...would love to hear "The Wreck" at that moment.

Also love to listen to "Song for a Winter's Night" smack in the middle of a good Minnesota snow storm, when the lights are off and the candles are lit, and I'm snuggled on the couch under a warm blanket with a good glass of wine.

For me it was listening to Wreck twice.

Once while going to college, in New Orleans, I was driving by the Mississippi River on a cold and rainy, (well cool for most, cold for New Orleans,) and the song came on as I watched a freighter pass going up river. It wasn't on the Lakes, or a big ship like the Fitz, but it was still spooky.

Then, years later, again in New Orleans, I saw Gord in concert. He was performing in an open air venue with the river to his back. When he began Wreck another freighter passed behind him. With the stage lights all you could really see was the ship's lights. When the line, "When her lights went outta site," was sung, that was pretty spooky too.

Added a lot to that concert too.

Funny you should mention this: I was watching a show on the Travel Channel tonight about peole who have experience with lakes and what they go thru as autumn gets a grip on them. I knew exactly what they meant. After decades of having a family home on a lake in Southwest Michigan, I have found that my favorite time to go there is late October into November. Anyone who has experience with lakes knows that they are a living, breathing entity. The water, the microscopic life in the water, the fish, crayfish, "seaweeds", the topography around the lake, the weather, wind currents, everything make a lake what it is, wether it is 500 acres or the size of Lake Superior. In Autumn everything changes..the lake responds to the change in the temperature, the wind direction, the lessening of sunlight. I've sat and watched it over and over again, and am constantly amazed by what I see. If you can appreciate the change in personality of a lake transitioning from summer to Autumn, you are able to appreciate more than most people can. Congratulations!
