Hi Folks:
I have noticed a number of recent playlists featuring Gord Lightfoot's
music and some queries about his health. After several months in a
Hamilton-area hospital Gord went home this week to continue his
recovery. Although details are scarce (his family and close friends
understandably are keeping most information on his condition private),
it does appear that Gord is on the road to recovery. According to
Canadian press releases no timetable has been set for Gord's return to
the concert stage.

In January 2003, a number of Canadian folk artists will be celebrating
Gordon Lightfoot's music with a series of tribute concerts . One
concert in Ottawa (Jan. 10) and two concerts in Toronto (Jan. 11/12)
will feature Katherine Wheatley, Aengus Finnan, Valdy, Hart Rouge,
Rick Fines, Jory Nash, Dan Kershaw, Terry Tufts, Ian Tamblyn, John
McDermott, Connie Kaldor, Dave Matheson, Jason Fowler, Tom Leighton,
Anne Lindsay, George Koller & Dick Van Raadshooven, plus a few
surprise guests. The concerts have been dubbed "The Way We Feel".

All the best this holiday season to members of Folkdj-l.

The concert also features a House Band with George Koller on bass, Jason Fowler on guitar, Dick van Raadshooven on cello and Tom Leighton on keyboards.

Gordon Lightfoot is without question a master songwriter and a man who forever changed the face of Canadian music. Originally from Orillia, Ontario, Lightfoot worked his way into Toronto's young Yorkville folk scene in the '60s and proceeded to launch an immensely successful international career with his poetic story-style songwriting.

Songs like "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", "Pussy Willows Cattails", "The Canadian Railroad Trilogy", "If You Could Read My Mind", "Early Morning Rain", and many more, became staples on the airways, on stages, and around campfires across North America.

His songs have been recorded by countless artists, including Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Ian and Sylvia Tyson, and Sarah McLachlan, while his work continues to inspire, intrigue and influence listeners and today's artists.

Gordon Lightfoot was admitted to McMaster Hospital in Hamilton more than two months ago where he is now recovering after several weeks in intensive care. "The Way We Feel" is an intimate celebration of his work, presented by some of the finest voices from the Canadian folk, roots and blues community. Each artist or group will be performing two of their favourite Lightfoot songs and sharing their impressions and connection to the man and his music.
