Tonight was the episode that featured Folk and Roots music. The last bit of the hour was about Lightfoot. Jim Cuddy, Bruce Cockburn and Ron Sexsmith spoke of his influence, they showed some of the Reno video,, shots of Massey Hall and Aengus Finnan was featured speaking about Gord and then singing his song "Lightfoot" !! The setting was in the woods near a lake. It must have been recorded a while ago because Aengus has grown his hair about 6 or more inches since then! How wonderful for him! - he was singing as the show ended and scenes of Canada and Lightfoot were shown.....it was lovely!

terrific stuff!
i always wanted Aengus to do his Fool's Gold video but this footage is pretty good consolation http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |
I must admit, I was a bit disappointed. I thought that it was quite brief in light of Gord's contribution to Canadian music. I thought his segment should have been longer. I was also disappointed that they had no interview clips with him, and the footage from Reno I had seen before. I guess I was expecting something more.

yeah, it's never long enough when GL is featured, whether on Country Gold or Heart of Gold or whatever else...i imagine Avril, etc will get 3 or 4x the duration
i once excitedly watched a Roy Orbison feature that was 90 mins in length...turned out it was about 80 minutes of interviews with other folks talking about Roy, and a whack of commercials plus video footage i'd seen no less than 50x ...whoppee tv folks sure milk whatever footage they have rights to |
I'm surprised they didn't use the footage of CMT interviewing him in may/04. Lots of people haven't seen that and it would have given a recent glimpse into him at this stage in his life. Disappointing about the Lightfoot part but very exciting about the Aengus part. Lots of exposure for him and his music - good stuff! He's touring in Saskatchewan now until the end of January. I hope he gets back to writing and performing full time as hard as it is from a financial standpoint. He has too much talent to even think about not being a singer - songwriter.

I was disappointed too -- not a word or a note from him, though several people said great things about him.
It was kind of neat though, the way they interviewed these people all through the hour, and nobody mentioned Lightfoot, and I'm thinking "what's going on!", and then the quotes came at the end, like the producers had just been building suspense...and then they played Aengus's song about Lightfoot and Canada as they panned scenery and did the credits... |
