Came across another reference to Lightfoot the other night while watching TV. A show about fishing on the isolated Albany River here in Ontario. (Great canoeing too!) The fishermen had made a shore camp and were cooking up their catch of the day and had some music playing in the background. One person made a derogatory comment about the music to which his partner replied "You think that if it isn't Gordon Lightfoot, it's crap". (LOL)

Not too far from the truth I thought!

I agree! In fact I'm so obsessed with his music, that I listen to it almost exclusively, and I'm almost to the point where I feel like I'm betraying Gordon if I listen to someone else's music. Jeez, I need therapy.

Ya, I've gotten pretty bad myself. My husband asked me the other day, "Are you ever going to stop listening to Gordon Lightfoot, even for a day?"

My response? "Ummm.... no."

Exactly my situation. It's almost embarassing. He's all I listen to, period. At least 95% of the time anyway.

I try not to leave the house without a minimum of 3 Lightfoot CD's. Once last week I woke up late for work, I flew out the door and was driving down the street when it struck me... I was Lightfootless! EEK! :eek:

Now, you must wonder, did I turn back and risk being even more late?

Well, I know how you suceeded. You made him listen to Lightfoot music all the time. ;)

Somethin' kind of cool happened on my way home from work tonight. OK you know I was cruising home in my car listening to a Greatest Hits GL CD like I always do, and I have to cross these RR tracks to get to my house ya know, and all of a sudden I'm coming down the road toward the tracks, and I see the lights start flashing, and you know normally I would start swearing and be all pissed 'cuz I'd have to wait for the train, but instead, today for some reason, I simply smiled and said to myself "Good, now I've got more time to listen to Gord before I get home." Not to toot my own horn, but I think that was pretty awesome and I'm going to strive to be more like that from now on.

Well he found that amusing at first, but now I swear there's a look of growing alarm on his face each time I purchase a new disk! :eek:
LOL. He likes Gordon too, he's just not quite as enthusiastic as I. :)

Actually my husband is the reason that I discovered GL in the first place because he asked for a CD with "The Wreck" a few years ago, which I bought for him for Fathers Day (I think?). Then I "borrowed" it. But I liked it so much that when he asked for it back, I clutched it to my chest with both hands like a little kid who has yet learned to share, and said "NO! MINE!!!"

Now, I swear I'm NOT normally that greedy + selfish, and I'm no "Indian giver" either but were talking Gordon here! ;) Yes, I eventually gave it back... (but not until I bought my own copy - mwa ha ha!)

And thats how it all started! :D

Wish I could remember how it "started" for me. I think I bought a used cassette years ago, probably because I really liked the song Sundown, and liked his music so much I wore it out, had to buy the CD and tape it so I could play it in my car. That tape's about had it too. Then it just escalated from there.

Many of my "musical obsessions" I can trace back to my husband or an old boyfriend introducing me to the music, but this obsession I have with Gord is something I came across on my own, and so it's very powerful, and doesn't come and go with time, it's just always there. I associate nothing but good memories to his music. I feel very possessive of him and his music, kind of like he's my own invisible friend or something. It's hard to explain how personal my feelings are for him/his voice/his music. In fact I was a little leary of attending the concert on Sunday with my husband, but he was very respectful of Gordon and because he knows how much I love Gord, he allowed me my space to experience the music in my own way, and without interruptions.

I remember once, about 6 or 7 years ago, the same thing happened to me on the way to work. I had to stop for a very long train. I was listening to Gord's Gold, and just kept pushing the skip button until Canadian Railroad Trilogy came on. Then I just sat back and soaked it all in.
