Watchman, watchman? You out there? Perhaps we should get focused on your past comments about trying to get a private concert together and Titans' comments and efforts about getting a private concert together for a private/and/or/semi-private concert with fans only??????
Watchman, are you listening? GSS |
I'm here. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
25k and Lightfoot and his band will play for us. If there are 200 of us, it would only cost $125 each. I would definitely pay that for a concert with only 200 people attending. But this is what I was told back in 1999 or 2000 when I spoke with somebody. I think it was his "booking agent" who I believe was in Nashville or somewhere. Could this be correct? I really can't remember. For all I remember, it could have been somebody from EMP. Whoever it was, called me back and told me about the 25k and he also took down the info. that I gave him about what we wanted to do. He also said that Lightfoot would not play unless his band was there. I initially wanted just Lightfoot and his guitar. Heck, maybe we can shrink the concert down to 100 people and Titan can kick in the rest. J/K |
gwen & al(watchman),
Count me and my wife in. Someday we might be able to pull it off and I wouldn't miss it. There's a bluesman named Dave Ray (of Koerner, Ray & Glover fame) who offers this service now that his audience has died off a little. Check it out at http://www.jdray.com/ where he explains the logistics of such an event. But anywhere the comeback concert is we're going, no doubt. Bill http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |
I have a feeling that bunch of us will be attending that same "comeback" concert. That would be nice to meet some of the regulars in corfidland.
|
Watchman,
Please add me to your list I would love to be one of 200 or one of a hundred. In any case I'll be at the comeback concert if at all possible. Brink |
Yeah, I'm in. Do I get to get up on stage and sing? Borderstone, you could loan me some money until payday? Kids? Where did
Daddy put the papers for the education IRA? |
titan, you are funny!
you guys know we could be his best return audience because we are so concerned for him. "He needs us."(Watchman, this comment was just for you when you consider it sounds just like Barbara Streisand on her live album, control that gag reflex do you hear me?) Seriously let's do this, guys, I don't think any of us will regret it and who among us wants to be left out? Not me! GSS |
Oh and I make a motion we put Watchman in charge of this.
Anyone want to second it? GSS |
|
Watchman in charge and count me IN...please! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I seriously doubt Gord will do any private concerts - his life has changed 100 degrees since Sept.02. His office/booking agent etc. is Barry Harvey in Toronto. I'm sure his concert schedule will be cut back as well. If he heads out in fall 2004 he will be almost 66 years old. If he only does Massey that's okay with me tho!
lol Char |
Could someone chip in for me? I work for a living (I'm sure most of you do as well) and like Sonny & Cher said, before it's earned the money's all been spent. I'd be very sad if I had to miss something like that. Still,it seems like amonumental task,so who knows? Also,I'm sure if he takes very good care of himself, being 66 wont make a difference at all.
------------------ Borderstone |
It's too soon to tell about cutting back on his concert schedule. He's been doing 40-50 a year (and has said he'd love to do more but there's the family to consider.) Age is not necessarily the deciding factor at this point - health/energy/will are. Dylan's only a couple of years younger and he's booked for almost 50 concerts this year. Heck, Pete Seeger is 84 and will still do a number or two at the right venue (but not a concert, per se - both voice and memory are fading, as he told a sold out crowd at a couple of appearances locally a few months ago.)When you're doing what you love, it's no chore.
An aside here re: age - I find old movies hilarious when they're showing elderly folks who are (GASP!)supposed to be in their fifties - and move like 90. Case in point, "Heaven Can Wait" with Don Ameche and Gene Tierney. Towards the end they're celebrating their silver (25th) anniversary, they have a son who's just our of college. Maybe it's the hokey makeup (Gene Tierney was actually 23, Don Ameche 39) but golly, you'd think they were way up there in age. Charles Coburn (Ameche's father in the film) was actually 66 and for most of the film was sprightlier than the leads in their elder years. Age is just a number, and it isn't what it was if you take care of yourself. I'm often one of the oldest mothers at school conferences (my younger one is in grade school for a few months more, and I'll be 52 on my next birthday). I put 'not looking my age' down to good genes, clean living and dumb luck. Which is all a long way of saying 66 doesn't mean roll out the rocking chair. |
Right On Annie! My Mother is 63 and still works as a nurse and she loves her job and is sharp as a tack! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif You wont see her sitting on her backside in 10 years,or even 20! See ya next time,my time's up here. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Char, Massey Hall is something special to Gord and I bet it's because it's a special place, and IF SO we should see Gord there right all?
GSS |
Borderstone,
If a concert comes up I'm sure TheWatchman and BILLW(me) could scrounge up the cost of your ticket. I'd hate for you to miss it. But Char is right! Even if he just does Massey it will be great or anyplace for that matter. But don't worry amigo if you're short a few bucks that day we'll pass the hat at corfidland and we'll front you the ducat. Peace Bill http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |
Where is Massey? Remember, I've never seen Gord do a live show. I wouldn't want to miss out on a chance to realize my dream.
|
Titan-Massey Hall is in Toronto
Char-Since you live in Toronto it's no wonder you would be happy with him appearing just there lol, but we would have to put you in charge of getting tickets for all of us! Including Boderstone. Borderstone, you can hook a ride with me leaving out of Colorado two days before whatever the concert date is. You will have to "put up with" my Gordon Lightfoot CDS though, hope you won't mind. Brink PS but still if Gord's only going to do a limited number of concerts a year, our private one would be easy for him. |
Brink,
Will you be swinging through Illinois??? Can I catch a ride, too! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif On second thought, maybe I'll just have to follow you because I will probably have my husband and 3 kids with me! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |
Oma-I have a van, you'll all fit, and a tv for the kids.
|
|
What say if we decide to do this that we rent a coach/bus from some point and all take less stress off ourselves. The only problem with that would be needing transportation once we got there. H-m-m.
GSS Watchman where are you? |
I be here. Been at work all day. I wish I could retire. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
I'm sure we could scrape up money for Borderstone's ticket. No problem. You can probably fly round trip for well under $300 I bet. Back when I was flying three times a week, I found some pretty amazing deals. I also have some Hilton Honors points that can go towards a hotel room for him. I used a bunch of them awhile back but I am sure that I have enough left for at least a free night stay. It would have to be at a Hilton, Hampton Inn etc. though. All this may be a long shot, but it's at least worth talking about... |
Could you make that a Greyhound bus ticket? I'm a chicken when it comes to flying. Bok! Bok,bok, bok, bok, bok!!! Heights too...and the dark...and dogs..and Carrot Top commercials & well......just kidding! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Flying yes, though. Bus,please. Catch ya on the flipside of Sundown. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif
|
On a bus that would take 2-3 days I bet. I wonder if the bus wouldn't be more expensive. hmmm. I'm not crazy about flying either but the thought of spending all that time on a bus vs. a 3-4 hour flight, there's no comparison. I am so sick of flying and driving both! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
