Does any one know what album (if any) the
following songs are on: "Dark As A Dungeon"
"Spin, Spin, spin" and "This is My Song"?

Also, what about these by Gord (not Two Tones): "Where The Long River Flows", "(Ole)
Ground Hog"?

This isn't a quiz *lol*. Just don't know the answer but have heard the songs.

"Long River" is on LIGHTFOOT (1966). Hope this helps.

The other songs you mention are available only on "bootleg" CDs...they were never officially released on any of his commercially available albums. Long River does pop up in 2-3 commercially available CDs. It is one of the small number of early songs that Gord experimented with in concert and actually put down in the studio over the years. Most of his earlier songs found the scrap heap but...when you can find them...they are gems.

information. Had gotten some tapes a long
time back from someone who advertised in "Goldmine Mag" (don't know if there is such a thing anymore.) It would appear that some of these were "bootleg", as all of the songs I had mentioned were on a couple of them. Also, the songs by the "Two Tones" were live....it sounded like quite a small audience. The guys were interacting and
joking with the audience, trying to tune
their guitars. Gord said something, and they
were just cracking up, but I can't make out what he said.

I do have the Two Tones release. It was a commercial release on vinyl back in '62. And I may have misled you slightly...Dark As A Dungeon and This Is My Song were both on that Two Tones At the Village Corner album. However, I don't believe Gord ever did them in any other venue. This Is My Song was his only original composition on the Two Tones release. He did a very nice job, though, with Dark As A Dungeon. Song of the Groundhog was a tune he did in concerts back in the 60s, including his concert in 64 at LaCave in Cleveland, OH. That one is available in bootleg copies that you can find from time to time on e-bay and other sources.

So...whereabouts in Michigan is "hometown" LAM?

"Hometown" is Marquette. We grew up 3 blocks
from Lake Superior, part of the reason for the affinity for that Lake and the other Great Lakes. Of course, the other reason is
the the huge body of work Gord has given us with nautical themes.

Gord recorded This Is My Song in the studio in 1962 during the "Chateau sessions". It was one of the 10 songs released by AME in 1971 on the album Early Lightfoot (not a bootleg). This Is My Song was also released as a single. In both cases, this was the studio version, not the live version that is on the Two Tones album.

Val: You are absolutely correct re: My Song. (Of course! You are the recognized expert!!) I stand corrected on my earlier post which suggested that Gord had not done This Is My Song in any other venue. I have both versions and should have picked up on that fact. One fine point: Gord may argue that the AME release really was a "bootleg" release in his mind!
