Would anyone like Gordon to one day record a album of sea chantys/songs? I mean authentic ones like "Farewell to Nova Scotia"? Maybe going back 100-150 years on up thru any from the 20th century and maybe one or two he's written over the years and filed away somewhere? I think it would be quite a thing to hear. Maybe not what a record label would want to put out, but he's past all that now, dont you think?

Don't think he's past recording anything - he had about 30 news songs ready for another album. Love to hear traditional songs, though.

In an interview quite a few years back, Gord
said that one day he might like to record

No, I didn't mean he's past recording, as long as he can sing, he can record...I just meant that he's past worring about all that record company garbage many artists have to live with..for example, he said that Warners wanted "Painter" to be a country album, but it didn't feel right...so he put in 2 token songs he didn't write to keep them happy.
Columbia pretty much has let Bob Dylan do what he wanted in the studio, and it wasn't till "Time Out of Mind" that he had any recent big sales. Maybe Gord could sell such an album over the net?

i think the success of time out mind was because of Daniel Lanois. bob was heading into the pits in the late 80s and then Oh Mercy (with Lanois) came out and "rescued" him.

If he did record such an album, what songs would be on it? The Wreck, A Passing Ship, Christian Island, Ghosts Of Cape Horn, Triangle and Ballad Of The Yarmouth Castle might be on it, but what else would be?
This probably would make a best seller, though.

Maybe he could record it for the Reader's
Digest music division.

I love the idea of a sea chantys/song album! Like the others, I don't know how well it would sell to the general public but I'd buy it in a heartbeat as I'm sure most of his fans would.

On that same vein, what if Gord teamed up with Jimmy Buffet for an album ... now that would be interesting, wouldn't it? Hmmm . . . Son of a son of a sailor, A pirate's look at 40, The Captain and the kid, On a slow boat to China, Steamer,
mixed in with Sea of Tranquility, Too Many Clues, Christian Island, High & Dry, Triangle, Yarmouth Castle, etc. LOL! I'd buy it.

This sounds like a good idea to me. One of my favourite 'Dylan' albums is Good As I Been To You. An album of old folk songs going back to Napoleonic days 'Arthur McBride'. With Bob, guitar & harmonica.

Yes, Gordon doing old sea chanties would be quite something.

good as i been to you has Jim Jones on it which is sort of a sea song. it's a great underrated dylan album
