Hi Everyone,
It's been quite a while since I've posted, but I still check in once in a while. I'm wishing the best for Gordon and am hoping for some great songs/new CDs and his return to the stage in 2004. I heard this song and can't identify it and thought you could help with this. This song is live. Here are some of the lyrics: The stars are ?alive? in the heavens tonight. The moon shines under the trees. The sound of the ?plane? at the midnight hour sets my mind at ease. Were it not for a mouse in the corner of a house, where would the nighttime be? I work for the man and I never get it right. I appreciate family and friends... And (with?)a tear and a smile and a ------ It's how my daytime ends... ------------------- I did a search of lyrics and was unable to find them. Does anyone know the title/album and/or any of the circumstances around the song? Thanks for your help. [I] love ya, Gord. [This message has been edited by loveyagord (edited June 27, 2003).] |
The song his one of his newest ones starting to show up in concert in 2001? 2002?...It's called "Nighttime"..I found the lyrics on Wayne Francis' site www.lighfoot.ca under "unreleased songs"
"Nighttime" The stars are alive in the (Em7) heavens tonight And the (Am7) moon shines under the (Em7) trees And the (Am7) sound of a plane at the (Em7) midnight hour (B7) Sets my mind at (Am7) ease Were it not for a mouse in the (Em7) corner of the (C) house (B7) What would the nighttime (Am7) be (Em7) I work for a man and I never get it right I appreciate family and friends With a tear and a sigh in a Pokemon world Is how my daytime ends Without an old clock with its wires in a knot How would my day begin (G) (C/G) (G) (C/G) (G) Oh the stars will remain in the heavens above Til the sun burns out in a ring And the call of the windswept sands of time Teach us everything Without any mouse in the corner of the house What would the nighttime bring The skies are alive in the heavenly blue And the birds fly over the sea And the sound of the bus that goes up and on by Rolls on reminding me Without an old clock with its wires in a knot Where would my nighttime be (Em7) (Am7) (Em7) Hopefully it will be on a new CD and it's released soon. We Miss You Gord! Jack |
I have this song on a CD called "Remember Me", under the title "Corner of the House". But I believe the real title is "Nightime", and Gord performed this for a couple of years before his illness. Hopefully this will surface on Gord's next album, fingers crossed!

What genre...pop/rock, country????
Male, Female, Group...who performed it???? Just off the cuff...I'd say Albert Hammond but ya' need to give us more to go on... |
I'm confused. Isn't "Nightime" a Lighfoot original? How can it be released on a CD?

That's it! "Nighttime." Thanks, Jack and Dan!
I haven't heard of the GL CD *Remember Me.* In GL's early career, I believe he sang a song called "Remember Me (I'm the One)." It was floating around on some of the music sites. I'd love to have some new or rare GL tunes. I've also added *Sunday Concert Plus* to my wishlist. I've heard so many good reviews of it. Thanks again for the info.! |
If you haven't heard of a CD by Gord or any other artist, then it's either a bootleg or an import. My 6th sense tells me import. That's all I had to say. Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Just to clarify, "Remember Me" is indeed a 2 CD bootleg featuring rarities and live stuff. It pops up on ebay now and again. (Not that I condone bootlegs!;))

Remember Me CD
This is indeed a rather strange compilation by someone unknown comprising a mixture spanning 1962 through 2000 of bootleg live concert recordings plus tracks from four of the "early" LP issues Early Lightfoot/Canadian Talent Library/La Cave (which spawned the 2 Koala bootleg albums= Get Together and Yellow Bird) Remember Me actually I feel has very nice artwork and is frequently offered on ebay by an entrepreneur from the UK who uses a changing variety of psuedonyms and often claims to be in the obscure fictitious English village of "Royston Vasey" which appears to be an invention of an old BBC Radio satirical program(me). There is still an example of one of his recently completed remenber Me auctions on-line search for item number 2536751438 on ebay at:- http://www.ebaylightfoot.shorturl.com There is a jpeg of the CD jewel case front insert and a complete list of the contents of the 2 CDs Regarding the unreleased song Nightime. this seems to have first appeared on a bootleg of a November 2000 concert under the erroneous title Corner Of The House. An understandable guess given the fact that Gord does not always inform his audiences of the correct title of every song. Indeed I wrote down the title of a then-unreleased song at a May 1968 Montreal concert as "diddledidum, diddledidee" Bear in mind that this concert was before "The Gipsy" was recorded in September 1968 for that year's "Back Here on Earth" album!! Wayne Francis'' unreleased songs page also lists the words to the other 2 "new" songs Gord performed several times in 2001. "The No(bo) Hotel" and "Shellfish". it will be interesting to see which if any of these 3 actually make it to the new album I hope all 3 as IMHO all are worthy additions to Gord's repertoire John Fowles Finally if you ever want to find what song some lyrics appear in (any song not just Gord's use Google to search for the words you remember (put them inside quotation marks) and you should find them- if necessary search among the results with the lyricist or performers name Usual disclaimer I have no connection with either ebay the BBC or the city of Royston Vasey nor Google for that matter [This message has been edited by johnfowles (edited June 28, 2003).] |
