Being a big fan of Lightfoot's music and lyrics, I recently started to play and to try and understand the song "Make Way for the Lady".

Can anyone help me with the meaning of the lyrics???

"Theres a couple of ways of looking at the song. It's either a man talking to his son, who's starting to date, and saying "Get ready," or else it's about trying to find a lady who will ease your suffering and make you secure. And as you go through life you find out none of this stuff works."
