I hate that picture!

"that's not the pic I have...."
No! No!! No!!! gord that is a most terrible picture and one which dismayed Susan and I and probably every Lighthead who saw it when it
appeared in the Toronto Globe and Mail article on Wednesday the 24th
according to the byline at 7.05 EDT as such and as the caption on-line at least states "Gordon Lightfoot arrives Wednesday for of (sic) his induction........"
Note that that edition of the paper was published on the same day as the event and I am pretty sure there is a story here:-
I would surmise that in their haste to print something quick and
beat the Toronto Star to it the paper grabbed the first picture
they could find and misguidedly published that one. Somebody (Char maybe??)
then created such a hoo-hah that they decided to try for a more reassuring pic
and got one from a more astute photographer (one of their own as you can just read in the caption of the pic below. Whatever happenned the Globe and Mail
certainly published a far better pic on Thursday the 25th (it is not on-line...yet
but Char scanned the actual newspaper) and she then most kindly e-mailed it to a few fans
I have saved it and uploaded it to my own website. So I can now link to it:-

At least in that picture it is possible to see that Gord has not all but lost all of his hair!!
Perhaps in reply to this Char will elaborate on the story

well my dear Johnny - I don't like the first pic either and I suppose you are right in that the pic was a hurried attempt at the evening edition of the paper that is sent out first thing the next morning. the paper of the 25th ran a more comprehensive sory about the album and the evenbing with a much nicer pic. i'd like to say i had something to do with it but alas - not this time!
lol
i do like the second pic a lot. he looks very happy and well.... and that's all we can ask for.
thanks for posting it John!
love ya!

I dunno , I think he looks pretty good in both pics. Maybe it's just a guy thing? It's just nice to see he's out and about. Thank you all for posting them.

Lightfoot's been through too much in the last year to look "good" in either photo, and who could expect him to?

He gives the appearance of a very thin Willie Nelson,in my opinion. I know it's not easy to look at these photos when we think of him in a different way,but better to accept the reality than to try to avoid it. I feel that given the fact he's up and around and letting himself be seen,he's not only getting the best care but I think if he can accept himself,we should to. Been me,later.

TheWatchman 09-28-2003 07:08 PM

He looks good. Thin = healthy and longevity. Don't forget, Lightfoot has a smaller frame and when he was young, he was thin. It wasn't until he started his drinking that he was gaining weight. No more drinking = correct weight for him. He looks good.

The first picture is how he looked when I fished him out of the Chiniguntha River.
