Just watched PART 1.
Mostly talk of the Canada Post stamp being released today. Barry Harvey came to him after a call from CanPost about 3 months ago (around when I spoke with him) saying they wanted to put out a postage stamp with him on it. He's honoured, and thinks it's fun, doesn't collect stamps but will buy some, have them framed and leave them to his kids in his will. He says the commonality of the other folks on the stamps is they all started around the same time, 3 are of the folk era and are still out performing and in the trade. He says he wil be able to travel the world and never have to leave home and didn't realize there are 6 million stamps being printed. He was consulted about the artwork and is quite pleased with the Gord's Gold album photo that shows him with 'that dark look, like thinking' and any good picture of him is welcome. The interview takes place in the very grand foyer of his home in Toronto. PART 2 in the next hour.. PART 2 He spoke about his 'mechanical failure' and how good he feels. The rejuvenation he feels (as well as his orchestra) from touring and performing live and he's trying to get it perfected. He spoke of the fans being out for the shows and getting great vibes/feedback from them. I will try to transcribe it asap. Perhaps it will show up on YouTube or some such site. Perhaps CBC or CBCNW archives it..I will check. He looked great - rail thin but smiling and twinkling eyes.. Humble and grateful as usual. Not much, if any, new revelations or things we haven't heard asked and answered before. It was lovely to see a glimpse of his home, and a few of his 28 geetars he has sitting in his foyer as if they are just waiting for the next time he walks out the door to head out on tour.. Char, are you recording/taping this? :)
|
Charlene, thank you for the synopsis of the interview! I have wished more than once that CBC was the same as CBS and therefore I could see the programs that you see in Canada.
And as for the postage stamp coming out today, I plan on stopping in the Orillia post office in about a week to get mine when we make the trip up there! Yay! Great timing! [ June 29, 2007, 10:02: Message edited by: Gitchigumee ] |

Fortunately, I did catch both parts despite the interruptions from breaking news! Gordon did look more robust than I've seen him in the recent past, perhaps he's put on a few pounds, but he looks good.
Re: YouTube, you have to convert the video file to a digital format like WMV and then upload it to the site. |
Type in cbc.ca/clips/mov/lightfoot-invu1-070629.mov
This will take you straight forward to Interview-Part1. Wasn´t able to get hold of part 2 as for now. Vera |

Has anyone found part 2 yet?

Great guitar playing near the beginning of the video--is he playing "Shadows"?

It's either "Shadows" or "Talking in Your Sleep" - I vote for "Shadows"

Hi, Thanks for the link to the interview.
So great to see Gordon at his home and doing well. I had the privilige to see him at the Warwick Musical theatre here in Rhode Island back in the early 90's. One of the finest conerts I have ever been to. Never forget it. I've been playing his songs since the 60's. They are always well recieved. It's fun playing a telve string with a flat pick and two finger picks at the same time! Looking forward to meeting all of you. Best regards, Dan Bessette |

Cool.. You get the distinct impression she goes on about a minute too long and asks one time too many times there, "How does it FEEL.. to be on a stamp?" etc.. but Gord.. always the gent nowadays.. pulls it off with the usual cool tact.. etc.. no problem.. Thanks guys.. |
You know one thing that I really love about that piece, is the part where he just finishes speaking about the folk music revival of around 1960, and then they switch to the photo/stamp from the cover of Gord's Gold, and you can really see the same exact expression on his face for one split second. The same man, same eyes, same expression, only 30 years difference in age. It's pretty cool. Anyone else see what I'm talking about? Check it out, it's at around the 4:20 mark.

Wow, yes, that's uncanny - good spotting.
|
RJ, I totally agree about her going on a bit too long--especially the comment about selling more stamps than albums--SLAM!
I don't think it was intentional, she probably was just grasping for her next comment. |
