Following GL's intro of the band, Terry picked up his electric guitar, in fact, he had it in his hand when he was introduced- yet the next song was the 'That's What you Get for Lovin' Me/Did She Mention My Name?' medley, a totally acoustic number. Do any of you who live in Canada and may have had access to a somewhat fuller version of the DVD know what song we missed at that point?
I know from Auburn Annie (as I recall) that we missed 'Sea of Tranquillity' at the beginning when Terry picked up the electric guitar for the opening number on the DVD which was 'Don Quioxte' an acoustic number. I think that the DVD was terribly filmed. Too many audience shots and too many out of focus remotes of the stage. Because of this, the film missed a lot of interaction between the band members and between Terry and GL. Pity.

Thanks for your response Charlene. I agree that "Beautiful" -lovely song - was not included on the DVD. I wonder why.

from what i understand it just didn't meet Lightoots' standards as performed live that night to be included.

From what I've read, the DVD is not arranged the way the concert was presented. I believe the first song on the DVD is either Don Quixote or Carefree Highway, but he did not open the set with either of those two songs....

This discussion and question has arisen before, so in the interest of clearing up the issue, the following is the full concert set list for that night in Reno. Songs that were omitted from the DVD are capitalized:

Reno, NV
Pioneer Theatre - April 19, 2000

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SEA OF TRANQUILITY
Don Quixote
I'll Prove My Love
IN MY FASHION
BEAUTIFUL
The House You Live In
Sundown
Carefree Highway
NEVER TOO CLOSE
Restless
GHOSTS OF CAPE HORN
Blackberry Wine
For Loving Me/Did She Mention My Name
The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
Waiting For You
Fading Away
Rainy Day People
Shadows
If You Could Read My Mind
A Painter Passing Through
Make Way For The Lady
Early Morning Rain
Baby Step Back
Song For A Winter's Night
Canadian Railroad Trilogy
Old Dan's Records
Cold On The Shoulder

Final tally: 22 included on the DVD
5 left off the DVD

And for the record, I wish every song was included. I'm a purist. Give me a recreation of a complete Gord concert. I'll take the mistakes or flaws happily.

Well said MM - couldn't agree more. I wish he'd do another live album.

OK OK Minstral Man. All I wanted to know was what I had missed on the DVD. You have now cleared that up for me. Thank you. I wish that whoever decided to omit those songs had thought a little harder about a couple of things - like this might be GL's last DVD and maybe the fans didn't care whether every song was perfect.

Minstrel Man 01-25-2005 11:12 AM

Elizabeth:

Agreed. Unfortunately, from what I understand of Gordon, I think he is the perfectionist you are referring to. It's one of the reasons we enjoy his work and concerts so much. But it is also the reason why we miss out on some stuff we'd rather not miss out on (i.e. songs cut out of the dvd, unreleased songs that sound great).
