Hi all, been visiting Corfid for about a year now and have finally decided to post this question I've been thinking about for some time now.Gord has been nominated for a Grammy award a few times, that I know.
Just wondering what songs beat out Gord's nominations. Thanks for all the interesting things on this site...garyinmississauga |

I have read that GL was asked to perform IYCRMM at the Grammy's, but he declined because they wanted him to cut short the song to fit in their schedule... I always admired that about him.

No wonder we're now weird.........this is what was on the radio during our fragile years. (p.s. hats off to Music Fan for a prize deserving utilization of the site's search function. A two year old thread........nice job) |
Re: Grammy Winners
Unfortunate as in amusing as in "how the heck did we survive the seventies?"
Brings up images of opening the avacado colored refrigerator while wearing a leisure suit.... |
Re: Grammy Winners
I think after viewing this clip about seven or eight times, I would have to agree with Fezo that it was an 'unfortunate' clip. But that depends on who your favorite singer/songwriter or performer was at the time this was recorded.
Yes it was hilarious, but for Gord, it was unfortunate. The Winning song - 'I Write The Songs', got a whole verse and a chorus sung. So did 'This Masquerade', which I imagined would have come in second. But WOTEF only got two lines in. Plus Gord, got some bad seating. If you haven't noticed, he was in the audience, but half of his face from the nose down, got blocked out by a tall man in front of him. He also didn't get a lot of camera time either, especially since he didn't win the award. But to be critical, other parts of it were also unfortunate. The presenters even butchered 'Afternoon Delight'. I wish they didn't sing the songs of the nominees they were honoring. Plus instead of seeing the names of the nominees and "top view" camera shots, we only see animated psychedelic cartoon sketches of the nominees. I hope the Junos did him justice with the song and his recognition for it. By the way how did Gord do at the Junos with WOTEF? |

Re: Grammy Winners
The same here as Cathy, in many clips I do have of Lightfoot being interviewed, or else. I always heard he had 5 Grammy nominations, 16 Juno Awards. aso, aso aso... :)

Who is responsible for the Juno's voting system? Whoever that elected him for those must have decent "taste"! |
Re: Grammy Winners
The Juno Awards are presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music. New members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame are also inducted as part of the awards ceremonies.
Winners are currently chosen by either members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences or a panel of experts depending on the award. In almost all of the main general categories, such as Album of the Year or Artist of the Year, nominees are determined by sales during the qualifying period; in genre-specific categories, they are determined by panel |

these days 'they' seem to think Junos have lost credibility also...apparently every other award goes to Nickleback (who i wouldn't recognize if i heard em) |
Re: Grammy Winners
I recognize them and turn the volume off...
|
Re: Grammy Winners
In the 70's Gordon Lightfoot would win them Juno's like no one else : except maybe Anne Murray who could sing, but not write them.
|
Re: Grammy Winners
Anne was a songwriter's best friend..
