This is a great song. Just heard it for the first time today!
http://www.aengusfinnan.com/mp3/Aeng..._Lightfoot.mp3 "Lightfoot" (Lyrics & Music: Aengus Finnan) On the road that lies before us, from sea to shining sea There’s a voice in the distance that beckons “follow me” And it’s there within the forest, and beneath the silver moon And it whistles in the wires with the memory of a tune Well you tread this country Lightfoot, and you took a mighty stand When you saw in her a beauty and you held her rugged hand From her shield and her shoreline, you gathered in rhyme Tender words that told her story, they linger yet in time Ever will this land remember Ever will your name be strong Ever will the true north ring With the glory of your song Through the wide and rolling prairies, to the lights of Massey Hall You sang about a people, dreamers one and all And you climbed the highest mountains, felt the early morning rain You traveled to the southland, but came back home again Ever will this land remember Ever will your name be strong Ever will the true north ring With the glory of your song Long gone, the Riverboat and Yorkville Days Long gone, the lines the navies laid Long gone, lovers and the carefree highway Still here are the tracks you made Ever will this land remember Ever will your name be strong Ever will the true north ring With the glory of your song Ever will Canada Sing the glory of your song http://www.aengusfinnan.com/images/p...aengusgord.jpg [This message has been edited by stationmaster (edited July 04, 2004).] [This message has been edited by stationmaster (edited November 19, 2004).] |

Aengus is a wonderful singer songwriter. He has a beautiful voice and a way with words that is his own yet similar to Lightfoot in that he writes of the common people, hardships, Canada, love lost, ships and railways and mining. His admiration and respect for Lightfoot is apparent not only in this song he wrote for him but in all of his songs I think. I attended the live CD recordings in May over two nights for Aengus' 3rd CD. They were held just east of me in Grafton which is in Shelter Valley where Aengus grew up. The town hall was the setting and the acoustics were great. It was amazing and I can hardly wait for the CD to be available in the fall. His first two CD's are gems. He has won awards and received accolades for all of his work. All deservedly so. Read the bio page, listen to the other MP3's...look at his previous tour schedules..he's a dedicated, passionate performer. He and Jory Nash were responsible for the Tribute shows in Toronto in Jan.03 and 04. I attended them all. The first year was outstanding but this past January saw 3 nights of perfection. And of course Lightfoot himself came to see and hear the show one night. Jenney and I attended all 3 nights and our only regret is that the performances were not recorded in any way. We have our pics and memories tho! Jory and Aengus and Terry Tufts are doing an east coast U.S. Tribute show this fall. Towns are on the tour page I believe. They are listed on Jory Nash's webpage as well. His rendition of Mother of A Miner's Child still haunts me. They are two of the nicest young men, full of talent and dedication and passion for their craft. I can't speak highly enough about them both.
I can't remember how to post a pic and I';ve lost John's tutorial-crap-he's gonna kill me...I have a couple of pics I could post. www.aengusfinnan.com www.jorynash.com |

I didn't see Aengus' name in the Mariposa line-up. Does he do festivals? I don't know much about him...

Aengus wasn't at Mariposa this year. If you go to www.aengusfinnan.com and his tour schedule for this year and several previous years you will see how extensive his travels are. he is a winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival (Texas) songwriter of the year award-2002.
His bio is there along with song clips..it is a very comprehensive website with a lot of info. Char [This message has been edited by charlene (edited July 14, 2004).] |

when i saw Finnan in Apr 2000 (took my bro to see him for his bday) it was in the stonewalled basement of this old house, there's now a War of 1812 monument there
http://www.battlefieldhouse.ca/c-oil.jpg we were stone cold sober but what a buzz that was...he played most of his first album and we (only 15 people there, but standing room only, lol) later all sang along to Rich Man's Spiritual... i picked Aengus's brain for near the entire intermission (he agreed with me on all points but i now that i think back, all that nodding was likely only because he had to have a whee before 2nd set, lol)... we talked mostly photography, he's got an eye...i thought he was planning a Fool's Gold video also, i don't think that happened, too bad...when you go to his site you will hear the lovely intro to that song i wasn't quite as high on his 2nd album but that's typical...looking forward to the live disc http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |

Aengus took all the photos on his CD's and booklets. The back cover pic of him at the grave of the Cobalt Miner was by Trevor Mills-bass player.
He has a section of photos on his site and some are of his "artsy" ones. He's a multi talented guy. |
