DMD3,
Sight-reading -- working definition: Playing unfamiliar music from scores. Go ahead and google search sight reading and you'll get plenty of good info. Bill http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |

In the songbook, Gord talked about he was good at sight reading. But what is sight reading? Sight reading means being able to play or sing a song by using only sheet music, whether that song is familiar to you or not. You not only have to know which note and pitch to play or sing, but you also have to be able to decipher the rhythm. It usually takes years to develope, not something you can learn to do over night. If you're interested in sight reading, go to google and look up music theory. DMD, there are several online sites that will help you out with learning guitar. My favorites are http://www.cyberfret.com http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~d...ustic/info.htm http://www.musicnet.com.au/lessons/guitar/index.asp http://www.guitartutoronline.com/ http://www.guitarnoise.com/ http://www.musicnet.com.au/lessons/guitar/index.asp http://www.wholenote.com For info about how to take care of a guitar and do some of the necessary maintenance, try http://www.frets.com Good luck, and again, if you need help with a particular song, just ask the question. A friend of ours is an opera singer and voice teacher. She sang at our wedding, and learned the songs as she drove up to New York by sight reading the sheet music laid open on the passenger seat. (Just as Cathy described.)
She got here in one piece. Praise be to the Lord, and the state trooper that pulled her over when she missed the change in the speed limit because she was looking at the music instead of the road. |
Thanks everyone. I just wondered what it was.
