I think I heard him sing "Did She Mention My Name" one time. It didn't sound too good to me, though.
|
I agree, FA. Nobody can murder a song like Mac Wiseman.
|
Yes it is true, he does murder the song, you can go to the site, and scroll down, There you can listen to 10 bits, of Gordon songs.

Sorry to bring this back up, but I wanted to warn any John Prine fans that his website mentions that he is finishing up an album done in collaboration with Wiseman. Now, I'm a big fan of Prine, but I will tread cautiously on this one.

Yeah, if you want a good "sings Gordon Lightfoot" the guy to go to is Tony Rice.

I agree with Fezo. The Tony Rice album of Lightfoot songs is fantastic.

I have had the mac album for a while. As bluegrass singers go I don't think he is not that great but I was surprised at how well some of Gord's songs work as bluegrass tunes. Nevermind the music ..... what was her thinking about when getting dressed for the cover shoot!! Then again it was the seventies!! Bill |
well, if you're truckin along on the right country road, i find that Mac tape pretty enjoyable...but, yeah, it's a pretty 'bumpy' ride and the whole album sounds like one long song, lol
i've yet to hear the Rice version but sounds nice i think JP Cormier is on a whole other level and certain has that bluegrass thing going on a few - i thought that was Skaggs when i heard his take on Dream Street Rose the HamiltonIV falls somewhere in the midst, IMO cordifians (is that from an early star trek episide? lol) have also done fine takes, certainly including CC above... great pickin and what a vocal! |

Thanks for the kind words, jj. I'm assuming CC is me? Right?
The CD Bob Doidge and I put together at Grant Avenue a couple years ago is finally in production, and hopefully will be done before Christmas. Val is going to redo my website so it can be purchased online. I'll post here when they go up for sale. The songs on my web site are mostly home made recordings, done on my computer, and the sound quality isn't that great. The few Val did with 'real' recording equipment sound good. Grant Avenue recordings sound great! |

Oh, you owe it to yourself. Just excellent bluegrass tinged versions of a ton of Lightfoot. Tony's "Cold on the Shoulder" is not to be missed. The only fault I find on the CD is that he leaves the sock verse off of Walls. |
