hey guys,
I've been working on scanning a small collection of transparancies and preping them for posting here...this is one, probably the best one.
I'm guessing it was 1977, but I don't have a good memory for dates!
let me know if I should post a few of the others...
I was shooting with a 300mm hand-held... that lens is just one step down from the Hubble telescope!!!!

This is only my second attept at image posting...
My thanks again to Sir John for the "crash coarse"

That's a beauty.

My vote is "yea"....post some more.

Borderstone 11-20-2006 01:37 PM

That's either 1974 or 1975/76 @ either "Sundown" Or "Cold On The Shoulder" time frame.

Very cool!

Peter Bro10 11-20-2006 01:56 PM

you mean I was younger than I thought?? that puts me at about 15 yrs old... just a kid! I would have guess I was closer to 17... oh well. I'd trust your judgement over my memory any day!!! (not saying much for my memory is it??)

I'm going to try reducing the physical size so it fits the board better.. on the go round.

Peter Bro10 11-20-2006 02:04 PM

here, try this...

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/8...set17xsqt0.jpg

I suppose I should mention that the venue that my pictures were taken at was the Chicago Autorium Theater. Our seats were in the "nose bleed" section... the balcony! I ventured, nevously, to the main floor for most of my shots... I stayed way back and shot with my trusty 300mm attached to my then most prized possession, a Topcon super D SLR.

Anyhow, heres the remainder of what I shot... that's worth posting anyway. I hope you enjoy them!

Gord is asking "where's the request note??"

I guess he does like flowers, eh Betty?

And by the way, I still have and occasionally use that Topcon... they just don't make them like that anymore... not that i could afford it anyhow...lol

Peter Bro10 11-22-2006 10:59 AM

Oops!
let me try that again...

This was supposed to be the first of the last group...
hey, that preview thingy works great, maybe I should use that more often!!!!

on to step 23

Peter, you're so lucky your mom was a Lightfoot fan. I wish my mom was listening to Gordon back in the 70's instead of Engelbert Humperdinck and Barry Manilow!

Chicago Autorium Theater, about 1976 give or take a year.

Jesse Joe 11-23-2006 05:57 PM

The Summertime Dream years, your very lucky. You saw a 38 years of age
Gordon Lightfoot.
Do you remember if he had an opening act,
Liona Boyd maybe?

Thank's Peter... :)

Peter Bro10 11-23-2006 06:33 PM

Back then he always had an opening act. I remember Bonnie Koloc the most. Although I admit I had to refer to Wayne Francis's site to stir my memory a bit.
I will be eternally grateful that I brought my gear that night. My Topcon case resembles a small briefcase! and heavy!!!
I don't know if you caught comments in earlier threads, but those flowers he's holding and sniffing are from my mom. What a great evening and great memories for sure!!!

I have a Lightfoot concert from Chicago,'SOUNDSTAGE.'
It was broadcast on PBS.
And someone presented him
with a bouquet of flowers
in what seemed to be a narrow
carafe or something.
And he pretended like it was a
beer bottle or else,
bringning it to his mouth as if.
he was taking a drink.
Maybe just maybe that was
the concert you were at.
But I saw this in 1980.
It was taped of course...
Just Wondering???

Interesting that you should mention that Soundstage appearance, Jesse Joe. I have lived all my life in the Chicago metro area (the suburbs). What I recall at the time... Roughly a yearly appearance for PBS, I going to guess something like 3 or 4 years, pretty much back to back. My memory isn't the greatest, but I recall this being a regular thing and I don't recall it being "reruns". It was definatly not performed at the Autorium Theater... the venue (Soundstage) is a large TV studio or something. Nor was it timed or coincided with his regular concert tour. I never heard of ticket availabilty for Lightfoots Soundstage performances, so I was of the impression that "other arrangements" were made for tickets..

I looked (web searched) for the soundstage performance on DVD for a long time, my wife finally found on ebay. I was thrilled to see it again even though the image quality isn't that great. That is supposed to be the 1979 apperance. I don't know if there are others to be found. It's funny how long I looked for that and for some reason couldn't find it. It was one of my tresured post-corfid finds.

I am curious, was this/these Soundstage appearances aired in other cities? Did Gord do PBS concerts elsewhere?

It seems the answers I find, the more questions arise!

Jesse Joe 11-24-2006 03:14 PM

Val Magee, can probably answer this for you Pete. All I can tell you, is at the beginning the anouncer says," Tonight From Chicago, SOUNDSTAGE."
And it was on PBS Bangor, Maine.

joveski 11-24-2006 05:04 PM

there was a PBS thing in 1973 as well. just audio, not on video though

Jesse Joe 11-24-2006 05:13 PM

Hey Joveski, I did not know that. Thanks, you learn something new all the time here. :)

joveski 11-25-2006 12:08 AM

i think it was called "made in chicago"

Peter Bro10 11-25-2006 08:49 AM

So... Soundstage ala Chicago was made available to other PBS stations, correct?

Still at issue is the question of was there more than one, or was 1979 it? and we saw reruns??

I had never heard of an audio only PBS show. any copies in existance?

I think I'm assuming at this point that the Soundstage DVD copies are probably not authentically or officially sanctioned?? In my defense, I searched diligently PBS's site for this and never found a trace, and I'd pay handsomely for it if they offered it. I found all kinds of soundstage recorded material, but no GL. That's why I was delighted to find it on ebay.
