I really love getting a "double dose" of Gord when he harmonizes along with himself on songs...

Race Among The Ruins get's my vote. Kind of stinks because Gord's voice is fantastic on every song but someone is waaaaayyy off key singing back-up. If you notice in concerts nowadays, nobody has a mic but Gord. I bet as soon as that Montreux show was over, Gord made a new rule. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

i think it was terry - he totally botched it. but it was fine on high and dry.
from memory, gord stumbled on the auctioneer a few times

Sheryl Klein 01-17-2005 12:20 AM

Ahh, I love The Auctioneer, that's such a cute song!

too bad, i alwassy wouldn't have minded a bit or a bit MORE live harmony... i think Rick's got mic that pics up his backups during Sundown and i think i heard some during Triangle also in Hamilton and at last Massey... but yeah, practically non existent

maybe terry had a bad vox monitor setup, hard to keep good pitch when ya can't hear yourself... or maybe he wasn't feeling good... or maybe he was feeling too good http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

ps) as far as studio stuff goes, Gord's layered harmonies are wonderful, imo...but as a friend said, how can this latest album called Harmony have basically NO harmony contained within it? i said i didn't think he was singing about that type of harmony and then the conversation just died out...just like the live harmonies, i suppose

"The more I think about it, having heard a couple of cuts, it sounds like my
mix. If so, then the raw stereo tap came from the PM1000
board. If it is my mix, I apologize for the over presence of the off tune
harmony vocals-- didn't sound that bad live :>)

All the Best,
Richard Harison "

this from the NG site, what a wealth of knowledge Richard is and is found throughout the site...my recommendation to check it out and especially the archives and drop a post or two or hundred, cool folks, i don't know what usenet is but sounds like it requires additional braincells...the more active GL sites the better:)

Whoever may be off on "Montreaux",
all I can say is,I never imagined myself "skipping" tracks whie listening to Gordon Lightfoot!"

I like Gordon's multi-track harmony on anything. :)

great topic !

Good memories of bjb, The Watchman & Sheryl. Hope they stop back in someday.

jj - i think Rick wants to be heard so badly that he projects loud enough to get picked up by whatever mics there are but it never seems like he has one officially assigned to him, LOL. Usually I can hear "drunken fan who can't sing but he's singing anyway" better than I hear Rick.

Bill :)

Sheryl,
I really like The Auctioneer too. I try to play it a few times in a row at least once a week.
