It looks like a round toothpick... a heavy duty one at that. I believe I read long ago that he put it in his mouth to mask the affects of Bell's Palsy.

That would be a good reason. Because that Bell's Palsy thing, caused him a lot of grief. Like he couldn't smile.

Still shows a little. He told Peter Gzowski, in that famous interview, that he still couldn't smile very well, especially if he gets nervous.

I have the LP cover, and until this thread started I had always thought it was a Mary Jane pin joint. I looked at it a bit closer, and now I'm not so sure.

Watchman, I think you have have hit the nail on the head. That is exactly what it looks like. Was that album and the demise of Lyle about the same time, or did Gord save it for future use?

and how long did it take for lyle to cook? over a zippo...that is some serious cook time...
