What was the first Lightfoot album you've ever owned and what inspired you to buy it? As I mentioned before, I heard the Edmund Fitzgerald on the radio one day, so I went out and bought the SummertimeDream album, and ever since then I've been hooked on Gord. :)

Gord's Gold was the first I owned personally, but my parents had some of the UA albums when I was very young.
Now I have all of them and more.

Lightfoot! (1966) for Early Morning Rain, and then everything else.

'Lightfoot!' - for all the right reasons.

My first Lightfoot album was Old Dan's Records although the song that I first noticed him by was If You Could Read My Mind which was not on there. So I don't know why I bought that album since I probably didn't know any of the songs on it. But it remains one of my favorites, as does the title song.

My first Gord album was IYCRMD, it was this song that inspired me to buy the LP.After playing it over and over I dident think it could ever get any better, how wrong as I. My only disapontment at that time till this is that Gord never impressed any of my friends apart from one or two. Why is that? Hey maybe it takes someone very special to get on the Lightfoot waveband.

Hey Traveller I see that you are a "gas engineer" from Hampshire.perhaps you should visit Sydney as I believe Steve there is having gas emission problems!! No seriously depending on where you are in Hants you should contact "Jim Nasium" to try to visit the pub in Gosport

Since James is new,I'll repeat a story I posted quite ahile back! :)

I got my first Lightfoot LP at a garage sale in the late 1980's and it was a "very" used copy of "Gord's Gold". I bought it mainly for the hits and thought (naively then) that this was "all" his best! :rolleyes:

In between,I got the singles of "Sundown" and "IYCRMM".

Come 1993 I nabbed,"Sundown","Cold On The Shoulder","Summertime Dream" and "Endless Wire" in one purchase (but for some reason,I neer played them much :confused: ). I knew "WFY" was out there but I didn't really look for it.

Then,except for a "Wreck" 45rpm,until 2001,I bought nothing by GL...until Songbook. I don't really know what got into me to want to pay $60.00 (in small payments) for that box set but I'm glad I did. That led to seeing him in concert the following year and to getting the rest of his "official" LPs/CD's by the end of 2002. :cool:

In my case it was IYCRMM, while I was actually in pursuit of "If I Could". I had heard the latter on the radio, but was unable to recall the title. I saw "if" and "could" and took a chance. It's the only time I've ever won a lottery.

Gord's Gold. Album way back from the day. Then when those all vanished one move too many, two copies on CD. One still in it's wrapper. Just in case. That CD got me through law school. Put it in the player, hit repeat and study all day/night long.

My first was a compilation called "Early Morning Rain". Bought for £5 at Beanos in Croydon! Good compilation of the early stuff. I Loved Elvis' cover of "For Lovin' Me" and "Early Morning Rain", and wanted to hear the original, best fiver I ever spent!
