Merely poetic license, I believe. Like so much of Gord's excellent writing. His imagery is second to none. Another reason I can't believe he is not yet in the Songwriter's H of F. Just confirms for me that the SHOF is as political as every other award show and Hall of Fame! A shame! Gord has not received his "due" because he has never preoccupied himself with playing their silly games!

Hi, and thanks for the kind words. I'm seriously considering doing another one this summer. It's become a bit of a tradition with Caffe Lena, and they love us because all the proceeds go back towards renovating the cafe. Last April, we raised over $1700 for them.
I'm not sure, if we do another, that it will be the same group of people. It's hard to get the four of us together because we're spread out all over the country. But, if any of the other four can't make it, we'll recruit some new musicians. I'm sure there are many around, and probably quite a few right here in Corfidland who are itching to do one of these tributes. There is nothing more fun than getting together to play Lightfoot music!

Did I meet you while in Saratoga? I met so many people that night that it's impossible to remember everyone.

He didn't play their silly games by moving to the USA. He stayed true to his heritage, to being a Canadian. Personally, I respect him for that. But, I think, had he moved to this side of the border, he'd have been inducted long ago. Yes, it's silly, stupid politics.

I was there with my brother, niece and father. Three generations of GL fans. We loved it and it was a treat to hear ALL GORD songs!! My family lives really close to Canada and I listened to Canadian AM radio for hours to hear Lightfoot. It was the Fitz that did it for me, I love that song.

Oh, the guy to my left, Derek Kidd, the redheaded guy? My favorite lead guitarist in the entire world? Facing the stage, from left to right, it was Ed Mullen from Alpharetta Georgia, myself from Maine, Derek Kidd from Palo Alto California and Matt Carl from Michigan.

THere was a paperback novel dedicated to Gord that is titled, "Icewater Mansions" by Doug Allyn. It is a mystery novel set around and in the Great Lakes, and about the divers who explored shipwrecks. At one point in the book, a diver feels trapped inside the ruins of a sunken ship and feels like there are ghosts inside the ice water mansion. That's what it has always meant to me, the shipwrecks under the surface with water singing through the rooms instead of the wind.

That one line was the only reference to the song although the book was dedicated to Gord.

I thought maybe the ice water mansion referred to its (her, if you will) greatness in size and coldness. Superior meant upper, above, in relation to the other lakes (but you knew that I'm sure). And sailors often refer to their boats and the ocean as women. SomewhereupinMichigan is right too, a little poetic license and wonderful imagery, I kept picturing a woman singing inside an ice castle or above the lake. Maybe in a windstorm the lake really does sing!
