I took a nice drive this afternoon out in the country with the windows rolled down, warm breeze whipping through the car with Gord's new CD playing. I can't stress how much I needed this CD to help clear the cobwebs in my head. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
I have to say that after listening to all the songs many times over, I feel Gordon has written some of his best lyrics ever. I know the old stuff is hard to top, but I think he has done it. I posted previously that there was no way he could ever even come close to writing songs which could be considered some of his best work. Boy was I wrong! I'm not one who likes change as his older material is written in stone as the best music ever written, as far as I am concerned. I just never thought he could out-do himself because the older stuff is so meaningful to me. He's older, experienced more "life" since "Sundown" etc. and it shows in these latest songs. Never have I had songs hit me so hard as "Harmony" and especially "End Of All Time". "End Of All Time" is probably in the top 5 of my all-time favorite songs ever (all 5 are Lightfoot songs anyway. Finally, I can say "this is how I feel about...". The song that made this possible is "End Of All Time". Being that Gord wrote the song, I guess I am not the only one. Yep, he topped some of his classics with that one. |

Is the Harmony albums anything like the A Painter Passing Through album? I hope so, because so far I think 'A Painter' is his best album yet.(I haven't heard Harmony, but I will).

DMDIII: Like you, I enjoy the Painter album a lot too, though I don't consider it as one of Gord's top efforts. However, I think, once you hear Harmony, that you will agree that the two albums are not really all that comparable. Harmony, in my estimation, ranks up there with Gord's very best efforts of the 70s and I would put it in his top five albums in my ratings book. |
