i found this for $4 at a 2nd hand shop yesterday. It's only called "Live" and doesn't have anything else in the way of sunday concert. the track listing is the same though. it has liner notes with lyrics to yarmouth castle on it
Is this how it was on vinyl or have i found some sort rarity? |

it was an LP
i don't think it was black though from memory. |
The front of my copy is an olive/tan border with a photo in the center (on a black background) with the words "Gordon Lightfoot Sunday Concert" across the top (1969 date - the last United Artists lp, I think.) It's *somewhere* in the middle of about 100 other albums all out of order downstairs - my husband was shifting stuff around; looks like I've got a project for the weekend <g>.

If my memory serves me well, and it probably does by virtue of the fact that I have the vinyl in front of me. I think it is as originally issued.
The album sleeve is in book form. When opened it reveals 34 photos, not all featuring Gordon, plus liner notes by one Robert Markle. Written in a clipped and somewhat stilted fashion, with some lyrics to 'Yarmouth Castle' in italics between paragraphs. The entire thing is in lower case. The sleeve features a picture of Gordon, front and back playing a Gibson 12 string, he is fretting a 'D' chord on both photos. I have just perused my copy of the CD 'Sunday Concert Plus, and the little booklet in that, features the same photos and the same liner notes. That just about covers it. |

Watchman, you said that you were a long way from home, so this lyric came to mind..."I wish you good spaces in the far away places you go"! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

The original vinyl release was called Sunday Concert. It was re-released on CD as Live. It was the last of the UA albums. I suppose since the CD was released on a different lable they could not use the original name? It was recorded in Massey Hall in 1969--a quick way for GL to get out of his UA contract and on to a better lable.

notsocooldude, you're right about the lyrics and commentry, the gibson 12 string on the front. mine however isn't in book form (no 34 photos). it'sd just like a single cover LP and the back has a B&W photo of him playing a 6string. |
