I think most of us know the role of producer on a recording. If not, a quick recap: The producer of a record (CD) handles a lot of things. He/she is responsible for obtaining studio time, watches the cash flow in and out, usually handles the booking of studio musicians, acts as a liason between the recording artist and record company during the actual recording sessions (an agent usually deals with the record company at other times), and usually has a big part in the overall sound or direction of the particular album. Gordon has used quite a few producers during his recording career.
For those of you familiar with his long tenure as a recording artist, I ask the following: what producer do you think did the best job of balancing the vision Gordon had for each album so far in his career as opposed to creating a "sound" that the record company, fans and radio stations wanted to hear. It's a fine line to juggle all those variables. Here's the list of producers credited on Gord's albums. Who would you vote for?

Some of you may have to dig through your GL collection to match up a producer's name with a certain album or song, but that could be fun. Granted, just about any knowledgable
person could produce Gord and turn out a great album based on Gord's songwriting and performing abilities, but a good producer can coax even more out of you. Think of how important George Martin was to the Beatles, or Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich were to Neil Diamond...or do you think Gord has been his own best producer?

Lenny Waronker. Gord has mentioned in interviews that Lenny had a big influence on his career.
