Thought it was wierd (spooky) that I was listening to the "Summer Side Of Life" CD tonight and that was one of your recent topics.

I remember many years ago when I bought the album. I had it for years before I listened totally to "Cabaret", the final song on the album. As I am sure you are familiar with, "Cabaret" starts off very slow....almost agonizing and then "picks up" with the second half of the song (after GL takes a swig of Ice Cold Canadian Ale)...."North Ontario".

I fell in love with the second half of the song immediately... I remember I was coming back from Balitmore and was listening to it on my 8 Track Tape Player...(wow, am I old). It took a long trip with much time on my hands to listen to the whole song. I probably had the album 2 years before I heard the whole song.

Always thought "North Ontario" could have been a hit....

Sorry if I rambled...

The album as a whole is one of my favorites as well and I love the song - even the slow part.

I may have said it before, but I thought "North Ontario" was "on the air I go".

I forget why just now but ...back to the point,10 star LP and 10 star song!

I never knew he was taking a swig of beer, but I always liked that for some reason-the sound was intimate, like he was right there. Does that make any sense?

Hello Watchman... I hope you are well.

The REAL question I have about "Cabaret" is not the Beer/Zippo question but........

Why is GL drinking Ice Cold Beer out of a can?...YECCCHHH. Personally, I drink Ice Cold Beer out of Cold Bottles. I love Bottled Beer. Can't believe he drank it out of a can. I do love Draft Beer in a Ice Cold Frosted Mug.

Also, the next question is what Beer is he drinking? I believe it was the "Crawdaddy" article that had him drinking Labatts Blue which is good beer if you buy it in Canada. Also, there was a picture of GL somewhere drinking that Australian beer (name escapes me now).

Ice Cold Bottled Beer.... Nature's most perfect drink...

Just checked, sure looks like Heineken to me. Don't they have light and dark variations? Looks like the dark one. Yecch! And I thought cigarettes *are* faggots (in England).

If Lightfoot told me that it was a Zippo I still wouldn't believe it!
It's not a joke. It's the honest truth. Way back when we Lightfoot fans didn't know any other really devoted fans, and there were no chat rooms or discussion groups to talk this out, Derek Kidd had concluded that the sound was a Zippo. Honest. So when somebody asked what it was on the newsgroup (I think it was?), he stepped in and proudly answered ... only to be set straight by a bunch of other fans. His funny mistake has become part of the lore of Lightheads, and we all love to joke about it, but it really happened. Derek may be the only person on the planet who thought it was the sound of a Zippo, but he did.

to be fair it was a genuine error on Derek "Zippo" Kidd's part

I have said before that for a long time I had thought it was the sound of a guitar string

But if it was in fact a beer can it cannot have been Gord's own beer

because AFAIK that was only ever sold in the UK and in bottles not cans
Nor could it have been the Cleveland Ohio brew Edmund fitzgerald Porter

And, then, too, John, is the expression, "I'm all fagged out."
