Hi Sylli,
Could it be "Sixteen Miles To Seven Lakes"? This song first appeared on the album Lightfoot! in 1966. You can listen to it in midi-format: Click here for midi (39 KB) or in real media format Click here for real media (334 kb) [disabled, since it's not the right song] Please let me know if this is the song you are looking for. Thanks for the quick response, but I played the song for her and it isn't it. She says she is now only 80% sure that it is him. She says the song actually talks about how the lakes flow from the north and mentions the actual names of Superior, Michigan, Erie, St. Clair and Ontario. I don't know??!!

Hi Sylli,
Most of the words you mention appear in the 'Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald', but you have confirmed it not to be the right song. At the moment I cannot think of another song that would fit your mother's desctiption. |
Okay Sylli - here's another possibility and it isn't a Lightfoot song (but your mother says she is only 80% sure, right?). I only discovered this song yesterday, and only because I am a Lightfoot fan.
The song is called Great Lakes Song. It is on a CD (Stops Along The Way) which comes with a new autobiography by Bob Gibson (Bob Gibson: I Come For To Sing, by Bob Gibson and Carole Bender). Gibson is one of the people that Lightfoot regularly credits with being a tremendous influence (he calls him a "mentor" in the Songbook liner notes), and Lightfoot admits being strongly influenced by Gibson's 12-string guitar playing. Here is the chorus of the song - is this it? Great Lakes Song (Bob Gibson) Singing - Sweet mother Michigan Father Superior Comin' down from Mackinaw And Sault Saint Marie Blue water Huron Rolls down to Lake Erie-i-o Falls into Ontario Runs on out to sea. ------------------ Valerie Magee |
