FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Monday, November 28, 2018 - November may mark the month of Gordon Lightfoot's birthday, but the iconic singer/songwriter is more interested in the giving than receiving of gifts. At 80-years strong, Lightfoot recently announced the gift of additional Ontario dates in his upcoming 2019 tour schedule. Tickets for dates in Richmond Hill, Belleville, Barrie, Parry Sound, St. Catharines and Oakville will go on sale November 30th. The iconic singer/songwriter behind such beloved songs such as If You Could Read My Mind, The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald, and Sundown has just completed a sold-out Ontario tour, visiting communities in Peterborough, Hamilton, London, and Kitchener-Waterloo. His concert in his hometown of Orillia on his birthday, November 17, was a benefit performance with proceeds split between the Orillia Opera House and Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.

Beloved by music fans around the world, Gordon Lightfoot holds international recognition as a singer and songwriter. Cover versions of his songs have been recorded by artists including Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Barbara Streisand and Johnny Cash. In 1971 he earned his first Top Ten hit when If You Could Read My Mind became an international sensation and in 1974, his single Sundown went to number one on the American charts, followed two years later by The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, which reached number two on the U.S. Billboard charts.
Gordon Lightfoot has won 15 JUNO Awards and has been nominated for five Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. In May 2003, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada and is also a member of the Order of Ontario. In 2004 he was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 2012 into the U.S. Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Lightfoot continues to perform extensively throughout the United States, Canada and in 2016 he toured the UK for 11 concerts which included the illustrious Royal Albert Hall.

It appears that the Lightfoot concert that had been scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga has been cancelled (https://www.livingartscentre.ca/thea...n-lightfoot-18). (The concerts for April 15 and 16 at Mississauga's LAC will still take place.)

I purchased tickets for the Lightfoot concert that will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. Given that the RHCPA is located on Yonge Street (at 10268 Yonge Street), I wonder if Lightfoot will perform his song "On Yonge Street" at the concert. (I heard Lightfoot sing "On Yonge Street" at a concert at Massey Hall in the late 1990s when he was promoting the album "A Painter Passing Through", but I haven't heard him perform "On Yonge Street" at a concert since then.)

I was born in Rockford in the early 70s. I don't live there now but I still remember one Saturday in mid 70s when my father rather dumped me off at the Coronado Theatre for a day full of live action pap mixed with some cartoon and short films. I vaguely seem to remember that I earned this by some school promotion. Do I remember much of what happened that day? No, I don't. But I do remember it was the Coronado Theater. Screw the PAC.

Interesting though, I look at my work schedule and find that I might very well be able to make it to Rockford to see Gordie on this date, even though I live near 1K miles away now. But, and what a big Butt it is... my employer does not schedule our Required To Be Available To Be On Call Days that far ahead, so I dare not schedule such a thing because I'll probably get screwed in the end. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/im...s/icon_cry.gif
