1968-SHOW OF THE WEEK - videos!!!
The late night TV news April 20/2012 CBC showed a short segment of Gord singing "Song For a Winter's Night" from the 1968 Documentary show which was the same show he also sang "Face of a Thousand People," one of my favorite Gord tunes.
It was the show in which I was fortunate enough to be invited as a participating audience member. Wendy Mesley, the CBC host was talking about Gord and his current interviews etc. when the short segment was presented. It would be interesting to know if anyone else saw this as I missed the first part until "Marian from the Mountains" called to tell me Gord was on TV. It would have to be somewhere in the CBC archives but I was unable to find any more information. RJ. |

I would love to see that Char if there's some way you could share it.
I remember during the taping of the show he forgot the second verse (The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead). I was soooo tempted to shout out the words to him, but focused on more familiar words such as "lead us not into temptation" being the good Catholic boy I was brought up to be. That evening would have to have been "thee" most memorable experience for me as a Lightfoot fan. Time now for a little "zen" maybe. RJ. |
Re: Song For A Winter's Night from the 1968 CBC Documentary
If anyone has the answer to 'how to get it to my computer from the PVR?? ' i will do so. I sang out 'over me' last night at Rama when he pauses between Ribbon of Darkness and Sundown..lol

Re: 43 seconds of 1968 bliss - video
Yes, that was the most impressionable concert performance by Gordon Lightfoot I'd ever experienced.
After that show I became "lighthead2toe." A newcomer to Toronto and in that year 26 years old, my girlfriend and I were seated, as I recall, directly facing Gord but this vid does not show us. The afro had not yet arrived JJ. It came later, maybe late seventies, early eighties. All us guys got them, even Gord bought into it. I guess you could say it was an era sort of thing. Thanks for sharing this Char. I knew the CBC would have it stashed away somewhere in their Lightfoot treasure trove. We just need them to unravel the rest. RJ. |
Re: 43 seconds of 1968 bliss - video
Wonderful!! Thank you, Char!

Re: 43 seconds of 1968 bliss - video
Nice Char very nice. Thanks for posting.
Ron - I lived back then too and while I had a lot of hair I never styled an afro. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you! I'd try one now - if I could, lol. Bill :) |

What does those number 4 6 11 mean? Been years since I've looked at a TV schedule. |

Re: 1968-SHOW OF THE WEEK - videos!!!
I see.
You usually would see a show on more than 1 channel in the US. |

I was very pleased to se that Doug has now uploaded the complete video himself to YouTube and has then displayed it on one of the far too many Lightfoot pages on Facebook I wonder how long it will last there?? TIP If anybody wants to save a copy for themselves I suggest they ask Mr. Google how to do so he has just produced for me a mere 184 million results (although many are probably duplicates or program listing web pages. I have recently had consistently good results using a French online free service (where you simply copy the video URL from the address bar and get a link to download an mp4 format video file easy peasy. but do it soon while the video is still on YouTube to be grabbed |

Re: 1968-SHOW OF THE WEEK - videos!!!
great, Sir J .... there are only one or two more live ones by Gord, as I recall...do you have Did She Mention My Name to upload? I want to how someone that he originally played that on 6 string, picking style instead of 12 string strum...yo the man!

Re: 1968-SHOW OF THE WEEK - videos!!!
Yer They be
other than the priceless final 15 minute concert session it is IMHO in retrospect a pretty unremarkable "special" I do not remember how I made the previous two clips but after trying about a dozen freeware programs and a pair of online websites I finally succeeded in taming SPG Video Splitter to produce two more clips |

Re: 1968-SHOW OF THE WEEK - videos!!!
Totally mesmerizing as we see here with this audience and I was there up close in the front row.
I recall reading in the Toronto Star that the CBC was looking for audience members to be in attendance to fill the studio room. Of course I was onto that one in no time and lucked out. That experience became an indelible mark on me and it's never left. I look at this and it takes me back there, just like it was that night. I would have no idea how to assemble the words to describe just how wonderful a feeling it really is. It sure comes at a great time as next week we're heading to Orillia for the Lightfoot Tribute festivities. It just keeps getting better. |
