First date for 2008 confirmed!!!

Just checked Wayne's site and saw that Gordons first confirmed concert in 2008 will be on Oct. 17th in Cerritos, CA!!!!

Hopefully more dates will be added soon - I have to make plans....

P.S. Even Pollstar listed it already - they're fast....

Hi Claudia,
You mean I have to wait till October for them to come out to California?! Guess I have to make some travel plans. Of course you could already start planning your trip out here.

Yes RJ, I know it's a real hardship....:p But I know you'll be tough enough to make it through again - with 'a little help of your (corfid) friends', lol.

Let's hope he comes near our hometown as well so we'll have an excuse to get all back together again - I had a great time with you guys last weekend!!!

Hi Dore,

thanks for your offer - I might get back to you later next year. Oct. 17th already is a good date - one more concert a day later and it would be perfect... Haven't been in CA for years. Would be fun to meet with you folks at the west coast.

Claudia,

Hope you can make it out to California. Dore, Kerstin and I will treat you like royalty!! We will DEFINITELY be at Cerritos (it's only 25 miles from me). And I'm sure there will be more dates in California... maybe even at the beginning of the year, like in 2007.

Re: First date for 2008 confirmed!!!

Thanks Kathy! I really hope I can manage to come over!! But beware: You'll hear a lot of German between Kerstin and me, lol.

re: Let's hope he comes near our hometown..

Indeed.. though one more Florida runthrough works for me as well (lived in Pinellas County for years, go at least twice a year, and got lots'a peeps down there still).. You'd be welcomed in the land of sunshine and palm trees Claudia.. I'd definitely make a south Florida sweep in '08 my own self with much glee and sense of good adventure etc., and they seem to do Florida about every other year.. If the voice is strong as the will.. then Clearwater, Sarasota, West Palm, etc... next year I bet.. that's my predict..

Claudia 09-28-2007 07:48 PM

Re: First date for 2008 confirmed!!!

Yep, my guess is he's hitting FL at the beginning of '08. Can't blame him, would love to get away from -20 myself in Jan./Feb.
I lived in Miami for a couple of months - long, long time ago, when I was still (very) young...:-)) I really love Florida, "crazy beach people", one of my friends used to say...

I really hope he gets to Humphries by the Bay in San Diego. I was so disappointed that Gord didn't play there this year. HUMPHRIES, HUMPHRIES, HUMPHRIES! (or is it humphrey's)?

Hi TC,

I know that Gordon really likes playing Humphrey's. When I saw him at the beginning of this year Gordon told me he would like to come back to Humphrey's. I suspect that the schedule was set. So, maybe my Peeps and I will get to meet you during GordQuest 2008.

Hi Dream Street Rose,

Wow ! You've been to 12 Lightfoot concert this year, must be some kind a record. I know you must have been happy with all of them, but is there one that would stand out ? And if so for what reason ?
Just curious, and BTW Congrats ! That's really something. You may hold a new record here. :)

Re: First date for 2008 confirmed!!!

Yes Jesse Joe,

It has been a truly wonderful year. I look back at the 30 some years I have been listening to and following Gordon and orchestra and wonder where the time has gone. The answer to your question if one concert stands out is not easy to answer. Keeping in mind that I am an "aging groupie/stocker" (lol), here is my answer.

The first 4 were in my own state of CA and all pretty close by. Those were my favorites because they were the first of the season, Gordon looked good and of course the guys in the orchestra were perfect, as always. Four nights in a row was amazing.

The three concerts in Texas were good except it was so hot and humid. The first one in Austin was an outdoor venue. We had to keep drinking water because our throats were so dry. Since "our guys", are professionals they played a good concert. I don't know how Gordon swallowed let alone sang. Maybe those were my favorites.

August brought Colorado. Ken and I could only attend 2 of the 4. Those might be my favorites but I think the altitude was bothering us low land people. Again it was great to see Gordon and watch and listen to how professional they all are.

Okay, Nashvile was one of the best for me this year. Gordon looked and sounded stronger that he had all year. That night was the first of three "goodie" bags I handed him on stage. He loved it and it hyped up the audience. Only one person as I am sure you remember was not a happy camper. People (not me), were yelling for Gordon to open it right then. He smiled at everyone and said, "She likes me to wait until later".

What can I say, except that Kentucky and Indiana concerts were my favorites too.

Jesse Joe, I think it is hopeless to ever get me to say one of Gordon's concerts is any better than all the rest. I have been hooked on him and his music since day one(and no Walter I do not remember when that first one was).

Thank you Jesse Joe for asking the question. Traveling with Kerstin, Kathy, a few others when they can make it and my husband Ken makes it all even more special for me. If I am lucky Bink will be with us too next year when she can.

I am sure all of you are tired of reading this but thank you for letting me share and for being my "special" friends who understand how I feel.

Thank's for a great reply Dream Street Rose...

Before finding this Corfid board, I really thought I was the only biggest fan of his. With good reasons, because I have yet to meet people around me, who are like us Lightheads. I am a Lightfoot fan since 1969, when I bought my first LP, 'Did She Mention My Name,' for the only song I knew of him then being, 'Black Day In July', which of course was on the LP.

I've had people tell me, he's different, he's ok, even one guy on the CB radio in the early 80's say, "Gordon Lightfoot has to be the worst singer there is." Can you imagine that ? It hurts me to even type these words... BTW my handle on the CB radio was "LIGHTFOOT" ;)

Before owning a computer, I wrote so many letters to many different places regarding our 'Master Poet Genius.'

The Moncton Times & Transcript, heard so much about Lightfoot from me, that now they call me "The Lightfoot Guy"... Can't say that I hate that.

As for you DSR, it is truly amazing, and Im sure Gord must appreciate your devotion.

Lightfoot is magic... :rolleyes::eek::headbang::)

From the few Corfidians I have met recently, there does seem to be an instant bond...sort of like finding a long-lost sister or brother or twin you never knew you had. For me, there is an immediate affection, connection and feeling of ease and comfort in finally, FINALLY finding someone who understands...

And that is why I would highly encourage you, if you have never done it, to seek each other out at future Gordon Lightfoot concerts!

Hope I did this quote thing right. If not, please forgive me. I am still learning.

Wow, Jesse Joe, you have made my day and more. I know Gordon appreciates my devotion because he has told me so for many years. My wonderful friend Kimmy, encouraged me to do some traveling this year, so I did. The first time Gordon and the other guys saw me out of California thay were so surprised. Now, they never know when I will show up. It is fun to suprise them all. I am so lucky. Gordon thanked me after every show for coming. I have watched him grow into the wonderful, loving, caring, appreciative and( all that is good), man he is today.

Of course you are right again when you claim Lightfoot is magic. His music has helped me through many rough and troubled times. His words to me have incouraged me to go on when I have wanted to give up. I will always be greatful to Gordon, Barry Harvey, Terry, Barry, Rick and Mike for all they have given me. As my friends know, I always say me because it is always about me (lol).

I look forward to meeting more Lightheads from here next year. :)

Yeh!! You got that right!!! It's a feeling that is even hard to put into words, but it's wonderful. Meeting several of you Cordians before the Minneapolis Show made the show even more magical!:):)

Oh, and Borderstone, way back in the pre-computer age, you had a fellow Gord fan here who was writing more letters, to many places and people. Had penpals that I'd found in the "Goldmine" Magazine. We wrote back and forth very often. That was in the 70's and into the eighties. Then, when we got the internet, every changed so quickly. Wonder where those people are now?? Are any of you here?? We used to wait for the itinerary to come out every year in the mail. That was exciting! Just made my year.:):) I still have those and the envelopes that they came in.....just like they were
sacred. It's been an wonderful 30 years!!! And then so sad, anxious and concerned, when Gord became ill. But, I'm sure that none of us gave up hope and so many prayers were offered up, that I can't but think that collectively, his family, friends, and fans, really prayed him and willed him through that long ordeal.

What a beautiful coming together of the minds and the spirits of Gord fans. Is there anything else quite like it???

~Peace~

Hello Louise,

I too remember the mail arriving with the Lightfoot concert schedule. What fun and excitement to see where they were going to be. We got to see the whole year all at the same time. Again I ask myself, where did all those years go?

It would, but I think they add concerts as venues are available. The logistics of planning out the schedule a year in advance is no small task.

All is well here in Toronto - just had a heck of a thunder/lightning/rain storm come in from south west Ontario, and last only about 20 minutes tho..Hazy but sunny now..could be more of same later..Hope Gord didn't get wet while raking his leaves..
lol
He can relax while watching the Toronto Argos vs Edmonton football game that is on now at the Skydome and tonight its the classic Hockey Night in Canada from the Air Canada centre (ACC) with the age old rivalry of Leafs vs. Montreal Canadians..
GO LEAFS GO.
The Blue Jays had their last game last weekend - no playoffs again..
;)

charlene 10-06-2007 09:02 PM

Re: First date for 2008 confirmed!!!

Just came back from a walk over to the ACC - they had a tailgate party starting at 4 till 7 when the game started and they had a big tv out front to watch the game. it is so incredibly gorgeous out-t-shirts and shorts still!
As we walked past the Skydome there was a production crew shooting something. Some guy was bleeding from his arm like a stuck pig but shooting was still going. We went to the ACC and on our way back they were shooting another scene of a bunch of Leafs fans watching the game on tv's in a store window - they were in jerseys and had Leafs flags and fan stuff. the window was a store in the Dome at the Rogers video store.(Rogers owns the Dome and the Jays) I talked with a production guy and the movie is the new Mike Myers 'The Love Guru" also starring Justin Timberlake. Unfortunately there was no sighting of either (Lisa was disppointed about not seeing Justin) but I'd bet Mike is in the ACC watching the Leafs and Canadiens. he LOVES the Leafs (anf Toronto/Scarborough) beyond telling. They've been shooting all over Toronto and the suburb of Scarborough where Mike grew up.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0811138/maindetails
The movie is set for release in June 2008. It will be interesting to see if the scene we watched tonight will make the final cut.

Re: First date for 2008 confirmed!!!

One thing surprises me.
I believe that Wayne has or had the ear of EMP and can usually be relied upon to be the first to know about concert dates.
After all his proud claim is
" the most complete source of Gordon Lightfoot information anywhere on the planet, with "the" most up to date new concert listings to be found"
"
As we had to miss every single 2007 conceret we are naturally anxious to know details of the mooted "US southeast run is being put together for early next year" as Wayne has recently stated.
But since Meredith is in close contact with Gord and now has a web site at:-
"Your #1 Official Source For All Things Lightfoot!"
and on the heading picture she has overwritten
"'your #1 source for everything Lightfoot"
I am surprised that fledgling site it may be that obviously she will enhance as and when time permits whilst she took the trouble to link to La Lohan's site so far there is no link to "tour details/concerts"
If you read this Meredith perhaps you might care to comment

Re: First date for 2008 confirmed!!!

Typically, when is the mostly complete tour schedule usually available? Gosh, there's a conference at the end of Jan in NV that I'd like to go to and it would be great to get some Gord in there. In fact, I've not registered for the conference and only will if he's performing in the region.

California would be nice though! I've only been once...and that was just a day trip/drive from Bishop up to Bodie State Park. I'd love to see more of CA!

So I'm hoping to attend shows in New England and maybe elsewhere on a road trip. Do any of you ever travel together and share expenses? I'm thinking that depending on my son's college internship next summer - that perhaps he and I will take a roadtrip. Though I prefer to stay in a hotel...the KOA kabins are so cheap and even cheaper when sharing. Usually about $40/night and the kabins sleep 4. Tent sites (and really, no tent needed depending on the weather) when renting a kabin are like $2/night!

Just something to keep in mind - I only know one person here and nobody else at all. But I think it would be kewl for a bunch to get together and rent a couple of kabins...get the guitars out, etc!

I've been on one ghost town rally and we've done this and it's either camping or a block of rooms at a hotel. Maybe we could do a Gordquest Rally!

Re: First date for 2008 confirmed!!!

I simply have to share a dream I very clearly remember from last night with you.
In it somebody(I forget who) passed me a cutting from a UK local Newspaper and I was amazed to read (in very small print looking rather like a want or for sale advert) that Gordon Lightfoot would be appearing in an outside concert (unlikely in rain sodden England) at Sherborne School (for Boys),
http://www.rwa.org.uk/paintgs/coo1.jpg
Sherborne School The Courts
one of a series of delightful paintings by William Cooper a one time schoolmaster at the School in my home town.
http://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/media...herborne_1.jpg
A view of Greenhill at the top of the town showing the old stone building "the Julian"
at one time this housed the town Library
two points to err umm point out
1 Just behind the lady walking in front you can pick out a triangular area built up in the corner. this legend has it was added to prevent that spot being used as a public convenience by gents exiting one of several nearby public houses. OK sorry TMI, I know!!
2 The old timbered building alongside has a shop on the right hand end corner
The last time I was there this was a greengrocer's store, in my school days it was a small corner convenience store not facility run by a character called Eddie Anstey who sold amongst other things cigarettes (I can remember as an impecunious schoolboy buying my first cancer sticks there (Eddie sold Wills Wild Woodbines
http://www.tinshop.co.uk/pics/1522a.jpg
the UK's cheapest and nastiest fags in packets of 20,10.5 and even in very small packets containing just 2 I seem to recall )
He also catered to gentlemen's "basic needs for something for the weekend" as they used to be coyly referred to and I remember my best friend Russ being cuffed around the ear when he asked Eddie how the "rubber trade" was going
Anyway back to my dream I could clearly reading then rereading that this concert was to be on July 4th next year at 8PM
I decided to wake Susan and tell her of this momentuous news, but she immediately commented that it must be an error since we had been led to understand by Gord's Manager Barry that they were unlikely to ever go to Europe again as they wanted to only go where there was a good chance of making/not losing money so in the light of this opinion, despite Gord having said a few times that "we must go back to Britain" this is unlikely. Then rarely for a dream I remember thinking "oh well this must be a dream"
I can also remember feeling annoyed because I did not fully read the cutting so missed reading our names which I had "seen" under the date details.
It will be interesting for sure if and when the 2008 full sked_yule is announced seeing just where Gord might be on July 4th!!!

I'd travel to the midwest for sure! Cabins are great and there would be no problem finding ones that sleep more people, or to rent more than one cabin if there's enough people. I don't mind sleeping outside and always bring my rope hammock  along if I can find 2 trees to hang it from!

When we had rented a KOA kabin in NV a few years back...well it was just great! It even had a porch swing and a few of us would stay up just talking and swinging!

One of the nights - a group rented the neighboring kabin. There were a few adults, who slept in the kabin and....about 50 teenaged girls in sleeping bags all over the place! The kids were really nice and well-behaved but I had to navigate around them to get to the bathroom. Which happened to be several times that night  .

Anyhoo, would be great if a bunch of us (or even a few!) can get together and do this! Unfortunately, I work Th-Sun from Memorial Day-Labor Day and I don't take any days off. If I have someone working with me next year, I can maybe trade days for some weekends off. Time will tell!

Keep in touch!

Great Gitch! -would be great if a bunch (or even a few) of us could get together!

There should be plenty of room in one cabin or even we could rent two. I do like sleeping outdoors however but prefer to not use a tent! I always bring my rope hammock  along and if I can find trees to hang it from!

We rented a KOA kabin a few years back, which was just great! It even had a porch swing and at night, a few of us would just talk and swing for hours!

One night though - a large group rented the neighboring kabin and campsites (just all the ground extending out front from the kabin). The adults slept in the kabin and...50+ teenaged girls  in sleeping bags all over the place! They were actually all well behaved - but it so happened that I had to make several trips to the bathroom  and therefore had to navigate my way around them.

I do work weekends (Th-Sun) from Memorial Day-Labor Day and I don't take any days off (3 seasons now!). Hopefully, I'll have someone working with me next season and will be able to exchange weekends. If not, I would only be able to have time before and after these holiday weekends.

In any case...planning well in advance helps!

Keep in touch!

Pam
