Many of you said it was too hard to choose. Our results bear that out. Can't get much closer. I'm sure you'll agree that these two songs are definitely among our top choices for all time favourite Lightfoot song.

For Showdown #14, consider two songs in which the songwriter professes his love for a special someone. One is an older song, the other much more recent. Which song would you like Gord to sing to you when he visits your home with his 6 string? (in your dreams ;) ):

I love the old and the new. I've heard Beautiful in the recent concert I went to. Although he (couldn't) perform it in the same fashion with which it was originally recorded (understandably), it still doesn't take away any of the magic from it performed as he does today. I'll Prove My Love is a wonderful "new" song, without the "sappiness" that some people eschew. Hey... I'll take sappiness any day.. but, that's just me. So, by a nose... Beautiful.

Personally I don't see how anyone could overlook that wonderful vibrato in "B." when Gord sings,.."and I must say,it means so much to meee-e-e-e,to bee-ee-e,the one" ..etc.

That's why I chose it,not just because it's a classic.

If you guys think 'Beautiful' is bad, try listening to 'A Message To The Wind'. I actually have listened to this song only twice in my life, I bullsh*t you not. The 1st time was shortly after I purchased Songbook; thought I'd give it a listen even though I didn't like it that much. The 2nd was one time when I was playing Disc 1 after bedding down for the night...

By the way, I vote for I'll Prove My Love. :D

Chris,I happen to really love the song,"Message To The Wind". I stated somewhere's before that it's Gord almost acapella with little accompaniment. I think it's awesome! :) As well as Beautiful and other love songs of his.

I even dedicated,"My Love For You" to my last girlfriend. :)

Well, there are some who cherish what others really do not like. :) I'm sure there are songs that I'm just crazy about, and other people couldn't stand to listen to them for more than thirty seconds.

And because it's the best song about being happily in love I've ever heard. It's some that he doesn't have to "Prove."
