Hi everybody,
I don't know if this was already posted or not. You can watch web casts of all the Live 8 concerts, including the Barrie show on AOL's music site. The URL is http://music.aol.com/live_8_concert/live_now

Just click the Toronto link. You can also watch some of the other concerts. Right now I'm watching REM from London.

Better hurry if you want to see the Toronto show. It starts at 11:30 Eastern, in just 11 minutes.

According to Char, Gord was scheduled for around 4pm. Blue Rodeo is on now. Better hurry up and connect!

Auburn Annie 07-02-2005 03:17 PM

He's on and looking good - doing "Restless", "If You Read My Mind," and "Let It Ride"

and now Let It Ride....

Auburn Annie 07-02-2005 03:29 PM

So nice to see and hear him solo, too (no snub to the guys.)

AnneOK 07-02-2005 03:39 PM

Arrrrgghh! Would you believe my modem reset itself at the end of Blue Rodeo, forcing me to reboot and then reconnect to the website! I came in at the middle of IYCRMM. I guess I'll have to catch a rebroadcast but it just isn't the same.

Grrrr. Impeccable timing, these machines have.

(Don't get me wrong -- I realize catching a rebroadcast is nothing in comparison to the cause behind these shows! How lucky I am to have a computer to complain about!)

Update from the Toronto Star:

5:14 p.m.

After three hours patiently waiting beside the media tent, Sarah Watson now has the perfect birthday gift for her father — a signed picture of folk legend Gordon Lightfoot.

“I can’t believe I actually met him,” said the 30-year-old Toronto woman just moments afterward.

“You have no idea how excited I am.”

Watson plans on giving her father, Russ, the picture on his upcoming birthday.

Hope we didn’t spoil the surprise. *

el it's all right for some but it's not allright for me
it is just f...ing frustrating. For starters my PC's stoopid sound card has gone on strike so I can hear sweet nothing, to cap that although
I can click on the Toronto link on AOL all I get is an unchanging black screen and no videpo picture at all at all. probably due to
not having broadband

Gord H 07-02-2005 06:17 PM

Unfortunately I didn't see any of it all :(

I came down with some nasty bug and I didn't care if I taped it or not! That's how sick I was.

Grrr.

Auburn Annie 07-02-2005 06:59 PM

They're wrapping it up now (8 pm) with Neil Young, who's singing "Four Strong Winds" with his wife, and "When God Made Me" with a choir. They're filing out for a finale with Neil leading just about everybody, including Gord, in "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World." The finale was "O Canada."

And there's a message on the site that reads:
"Molson Park played host to an eclectic lineup of superstar artists, including Simple Plan, Bryan Adams, Jet, Celine Dion, Barenaked Ladies and Neil Young. Enjoy the looping broadcast of the concert. Come back soon to watch the entire show, song by song, on demand."

When I had it on they were going between London and Philly. I'm not sure we got Toronto. Wish I could see it.

charlene 07-02-2005 07:42 PM

Neil was great. He sang 4 Strong Winds with his wife and a beautiful song
"When God Made Me" and he played the piano accompanied by a choir. Most of
the performers joined him on stage and it seemed like he was going to sing
"Helpless" judging by what Dan Aykroyd said about Neil writing an anthem for
Ontario but running overtime they all sang "Livin' In The Free World.(as
opposed to Rockin' in the Free world.") instead.Gord rocked out and was
grinning ear to ear! Too funny! I guess it just seemed so chaotic to him on
stage compared to the Lightfoot shows!
Everyone then sang the Canadian National Anthem...very nice to hear en masse
like that.
It was so wonderful to see him and I can't wait until next Sunday at
Mariposa!!
yeehaw!

Admittedly, there's something incongruous about seeing Gordon Lightfoot on such a large stage, especially one that will soon be occupied by Motley Crue. And yet, standing there alone, with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, Gord is most definitely in his element. The crowd, which in some areas skews very young, is reverent. Gord's delicate and timeless ballads (”If You Could Read My Mind” among them) ring out with elegance. How can Our Lady Peace possibly hope to follow up?

<Next Saturday> 07-02-2005 10:47 PM

Correction--On the previous link Lightfoot's photos are numbers 27 & 28

Thanks, Next Saturday, for the photo links. Our boy looks good! I saw the very end and saw him standing up there on stage behind Neil Young. All right! Tomorrow, I'll watch more of the show. I was positively giddy watching as much as I could today. Great concert! Great cause. Hope you all signed your names...

violet Blue 07-03-2005 03:01 AM

My sympathies. My computer stalled out and shut down when I tried to watch. Did the same thing when I tried to listen to the radio version. Finally gave up. Hate AOL.

[/QUOTE]I wish I had known "Our Lady Peace" was the band that followed Charzo. I have one of their CDs. They are a great band. They do a beautiful song called "Bring back the sun". I will have to check out the replays.

There was one short view of Gord backstage talking to someone who looked very much like his wife...

charlene 07-03-2005 10:33 AM

yep-just before he went on they showed Gord and the Mrs.backstage.

ELizabeth 07-03-2005 11:22 AM

I made the mistake of getting bored with waiting for GL (having no idea of when he was supposed to be on)that I left to do some housework. When I came back a blonde singer Jan(?)Arden was on and I realized that I had just missed GL!

violet Blue 07-03-2005 01:48 PM

Well, good for them. I'm happy for them. Ruins a few good fantasies, but that's small potatoes compared to putting a marriage back together . . . sighhhhh . . .

GJA 07-03-2005 02:57 PM

I do hope they are back together...since I'm too far away to tend to him!!!

I don't know if jumping to any conclusions in regards to his relationship with Mrs.Lightfoot can be made one way or the other.

joveski 07-03-2005 04:29 PM

is there any way of saving those 2 images?

violet Blue 07-03-2005 05:42 PM

No, probably not. But he's wearing a wedding ring. Can't have a fantasy that turns out good if the guy's wearing one of those.

Did you try right clicking on the image and choosing Save Picture or Target As? Haven't tried it, so I don't know if the photos are protected.

I've tried that -- doesn't work.

Finally after what seems like days.... and thanks to Cathy, got to see Gordy perform. Wow, he was great! He looked real fine too.
Kimberly

ELizabeth 07-03-2005 08:19 PM

I am so happy-I got to see/hear GL on Live 8 replay. He looked and sounded great...the crowd, which seemed on the young side, went wild for him. Fabulous. Bill W. see what we have to look forward to.

johnfowles 07-04-2005 06:32 AM

OK even though I have so far been unable to see or hear anything of Gord's contribution and have therefore only been able
only read the reviews.
but just maybe I can tame my beastly PC in time for the rebroadcasting tomorrow or whenever it is,Meanwhile and thanks to
Char's Newsgroup posting I was able to see a picture of Gord at Barrie from:-
http://www.cbc.ca/story/arts/nationa...ve8barrie.html
http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/pix/lightfoot_...etty_live8.jpg
John Fowles
Now to try to see the other two pix mentioned above If I can get them to appear then regardless of whether saving is disabled I'll try making screenshots c u l8er

It is a series of stoopid flash galleries not individual pictures but there is always more than one way to skin a cat oops
sorry catmanron and Sharron so if I could actually see these alleged Gordpix I could certainly make screenshots but on a dial
up takes yonks to load and so far usually brings up a note that there has been an error loading also the thumbnails are refusing to load so any clues on which of the 7 galleries listed contains Gord's 2 pix??
So far I have only seen one pic (of the stage) but I'll keep trying

70sFan 07-04-2005 07:41 AM

You can now watch Lightfoot's Live 8 performances on-demand on AOL here:

http://music.aol.com/artist/main.adp...2053&albumid=0

I was thrilled to see this as I missed all but the last song on the original broadcast and kept missing him on the rebroadcast.

violet Blue 07-04-2005 03:58 PM

Apparently if you have ever uninstalled AOL in a fit of pique it remembers and never allows you to view AOL content again. On the one hand, small price to pay for getting rid of AOL's high handed tactics. On the other hand I CAN'T VIEW ANY OF THE DAMN CLIPS.
