Dear all,
What is your most rare, Gord item?
Or what item, do you value above all else?

Frank.

Happy 2001 Frank v, STILL coming up with the best, thought provoking questions! lol
My most prized item is my SONGBOOK 4CD set & book. All the hits are there + some new classics. I like Gordon's commentary to the songs too. Priceless. I also value my original "Salute" LP. I guess the memories of seeing him in concert for the first time are very special too.

I would have to say meeting him last July in Orillia, taking to him, my pics oh him that day and the autograph on my 30 year old 45 of IYCRMM.
It turned him from "legend" into "legendary Man" for me that day.

My most valuable Gord items are the photos of him and I that were taken in North Tonawanda and San Diego California last year. He autographed the one from the Majestic Theater for me. What a treasure.
Meeting him was so wonderful, words cannot convey the joy that I felt while I talked to him.

I would have to say my most rare item of Gord would be, number 1 meeting him backstage at the Erie, Pa. concert, and shaking his hand, and talking with him, a dream come true. 2nd would be the songbook, which I listen to everyday.

Man, I need to meet the man. That would qualify.

How's this? I have my own nice vinyl copy of the album "Sit Down Young Stranger." Have the same thing on CD and fr some reason they have changed the name to "If You Could Read My Mind"......

I found this thread from 2&1/2 years ago. (Has it been that long since 2001? Yikes:eek http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Anyway,I'm surprised more people didn't answer this question. My most prized GL posessions, besides my LP collection, are my autographed concert ticket, autographed concert hall schedule (I kinda sneaked it off the wall),and of course...the lifetime memory of meeting Gordon & The Band after the show! Other than those, the only other thing that comes to mind is,the impact his music has had on me. It's been yours truly and I'll catch ya on the flipside of Sundown! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

I guess my most important GL items are the album & CD collections. The various song books I have managed to lay my paws on. The autograph I got backstage a few years ago. At that meeting I had 2 photos taken with Gordon and my spouse, sadly, not one picture on a roll of 24 came out. We were devastated. I still have the abiding memory of meeting Gordon. When I mentioned to him that I particularly liked the song "Someone To Believe In". He stopped me talking, thought for a few seconds, then gently sang the opening stanza, that was a great moment.
I am also particularly proud to have gotten hold of one of the 61 limited edition Lightfoot signature Martin D18 guitars.

I would very much like to meet him again and get the photo, a digital camera next time http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I usually go by Char but I think when Florian made me a co-moderator he signed me in as Charlene. I've been "Char" since I was 15. A LONG time ago!

I was fortunate enough to have the band sign my 2 martins 6 and 12 string when he signed my 6 string in carlisle a few years ago we stood and talked for 1/2 hour they say you should never meet your heros you.ll be disappointed. Gord proved them wrong whenever I play I think about 1971 when i heard sit down young stranger and was hooked forever to one of the finest songwriters of our generation thanks for everything Gord

I have 2 favorites.

First and foremost is my Songbook boxed set autographed by the MAN at a concert in NYC in August 2000. It was the first time I met Gord and it was thrilling.

Second is a ticket from the April 14, 2002 Keswick PA concert which I did NOT attend because a good friend chose that night to get married (geesh). Nevertheless, Char, Silverheels and a few other wonderful Lightfoot buddies took my ticket to the concert and Gord autographed it with

"Sorry David, you missed the show. Gordon Lightfoot"

That ticket reminds me not only of Gord, but also of the wonderful people I have met who are also fans of his.

One other object deserves honorable mention. After the Coral Springs concert in 2001, Gord used my cellphone to speak to Silverheels in England, who hadn't seen him in nearly 20 years. Gord told SH that the weather in Florida was hot and moist, and SH responded that she was rather "hot and moist" herself! ROTFLMAO!

The picture of "THE CALL" is priceless, as is the cellphone, which I presented to Silverheels as a momento after the phone contract expired. But I think of that as Silverheels' momento rather than mine.

So many great memories!

I have a first edition copy of the childrens book "The Pony Man". I hope to get it autographed some day. Then my most prized possesion would be the memory of meeting Gord, which hopefully will follow a concert.

2M2L,

The CALL photograph - which is of Gord on the cell, speaking to me, and which he signed for me in Toronto,2001, is one of my special momentos because it holds so many Gord memories. The photograph, kindly framed by a special friend, sits on my desk. The
cellphone I use as a paperweight.
What wonderful memories are unleashed as I look at these two items!

And like you, they serve to remind me of all the beautiful souls Gord has introduced into my life and who I now count as my dearest friends. You know who you are. You are
probably my favourite Gord items: my friends!

DMD3 05-07-2003 09:30 AM

I really don't have any "items" other than the CDs that I have. The Songbook is my favorite item so far. It has, I believe, 88 songs on there and at least 10/11 of them sound Grreat!

Yeah, I feel a little inadequate here...never met him, no autographs...all the songbooks though, and a quadraphonic LP of Sundown!

fowlesjohn 05-07-2003 09:53 PM

yeah, like Bille, I feel a little inadequate. I really don't collect tons of Gord LP's, I really don't know where to look for them. I wish I had met him and I don't think i would have done much except stand there and maybe drink in the moment. Perhaps it's time to really plan the next time for my thoughts alone. I just hope I do get to meet some of you guys at the next event, because it has been fun discussing and reading about all the others who love Gord's music for all that it is and will remain with us as...so the next night out we'll all be there, right, making memories.

I think that my most rare item would be my LP "Gordon Lightfoot Talks About Shadows" from 1982. It was made for certain radio stations to plug his newest release at the time. It's an entire LP of Lightfoot talking about canoeing, the audience, writing and explains what each song is about on "Shadows". I don't know exactly how rare this really is but mine is the only one that I have seen.

formerlylavender 05-08-2003 08:23 AM

Watchman, that LP sounds cool. I love hearing Gord discuss the individual songs.

My favorite "rare" Gord items are the pictures I have of him after the concerts. I did get him to autograph my Waiting For You CD cover as well. The best part about meeting him was I got a hug each time. That was the BEST!

Iron 05-17-2003 05:09 AM

I'm kinda suprised more people did not respond to this, especially the lucky ones that got a d-18 GL.[Now there is another story subjecet] Anyway, as far as rare,I suppose that would have to be our(Brian&Gloria's) D18GL. CDs and guitar books we have in the 20s of each and many books and mags. and vidio's..........Most valued of all was to meet the man...on our "Spring Gordoning 2002 Tour".Saw Him at Trenton N.J.,where We got to meet him, thanks so much to John F. then on to Lancaster and then to Williamsport.....All Front Row.....We had one more to go....in our own back yard....then Gordon got sick......Would have been 4 shows in one year......But still the most awsome year of my life.... Meeting Him was the most Valued.... He talks "with"you just like a regular dude...no hype no B.S. just like His show's....Wherever I have to go,I'll see Him and the band again,He said they would sign Our guitar and I'm going to hold em to it.....Can't wait... Brian&Gloria (Iron)

Last Thursday I got the Sundown Album. Nothing rare about that but it has a lot of nice songs on it. So for awhile that'll be me most prized GL item. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey there. I've been researching Gordon Lightfoot for a school project (I'm in my last year of highschool) and I thought I'd just tell you the reason that the album's name was changed to "If you could read my mind". Lightfoot was having a hard time getting a #1 almun in the USA, so when the song "If you could read my mind" got so big, his record company changed the name of the record, and the sales skyrocketed. Giving him his #1 record http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif kind of a neat story...

I suppose the ticket stubs of a concert I won the tickets for on a radio station by answering the question " what was Gords favorite pastime?" White water rafting. I saw "Gord many times in person in the Chicago area. Hope to again! What a voice1
