If Gord said to you "What 5 songs do you want me to play for you tonight", what would your selections be?

Among Mine are:

Now and Then
Looking at the Rain
Go My Way
A Tree too Weak to Stand
Second Cup of Coffee

Today I'm thinkin' :
1. Daylight Katy (it's that hook)
2. Triangle (that summer feelin')
3. Shadows (a great love song)
4. Restless (Great lyrics)
5. Song For a Winters Night (perhaps one of the prettiest love songs I've ever heard)

and then I would flick my bic (and I don't smoke)

1. Triangle
2. High and Dry
3. Restless (this song is so totally under my skin right now, I don't know why)

I'll Tag Along
Sit Down Young Stranger
If You Could Read My Mind
Restless
Drink Yer Glasses Empty

While deciding this, I was thinking of which songs would sound good a solo songs, songs that Gord has a strong guitar part on, ones that would work without his backup band.

I will take this topic to mean it doesn't necessarily matter if he normally doesn't play them live--that this is a complete "wish list!" Here are my current five (in no particular order):

I'll Tag Along
East of Midnight (the "light arrangement")
Miguel
Restless
Ballad of the Yarmouth Castle
Derek

I missed this one a while back, but it's such a great topic, I want to take a stab at it. In my response, I will assume that Gord is playing alone, without the band, and that the setting is a small coffee house in a seaside town in Nova Scotia, with an audience of about 10 (Lightfoot fans all). I am going to omit any song I've heard in concert (including Beautiful, Christian Island and SFAWN, each of which otherwise would be on my list), because I'm picturing this as an intimate setting and time to hear some rarities. In this setting, the mood is set by the smell of the coffee, the sound of the waves and the crackle of the fireplace.

On the High Seas
Affair on Eighth Avenue
Too Much To Lose
Ballad of the Yarmouth Castle
I'll Tag Along

What a great topic!!! It's the whole reason I found this web site. I actually wanted to try to organize a private concert like this for my wife and two kids when we go on vcacation. We are staying in a cabin on Whitefish Bay and (Gord if your reading this and want to surprise us) We will be in cabin#1 at Birchwood lodge in Paradise, Michigan from June 29-July5, 2003.

Our 5 songs are these:

1) Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
2) Steel Rail Blues
3) If You Could Read My Mind
4) The House You Live In
5) Carefree Highway

Please,Please come to our cabin Gord. I can grill you one hell of a good New York Strip steak and my wife makes AWESOME potato salad!

I have a feeling that Gord won't be coming so we will have plenty of food. We are going to take a portable CD player with plenty of Gordon Lightfoot CD's. I promise that if a stranger shows up at our door, and is willing to carry fire wood for food and music- we will cheerfully take you in, Feed you and listen to Gord!!!!!!
