I have a question about a section of this song much as I had with "Restless." Does anyone know how to play that rundown Gord uses in the beginning and in between verses? Its easier to hear on the UA version compared to GG where there is much use of strings. All I know is that I can't see what Terry is playing on the Live In Reno DVD. So if anyone out there knows, please tell me.

I kind of play a combination of what Gord and Terry plays, which works out pretty well if you're playing it solo. In concert, Gord just plays the GaddD all the way through the intro and between verses. Terry, or in the case of the UA recordings, Red does the riff we're all so familiar with. Here's how I do it. I start out playing four bars of GaddD, Travis picked, then I go into the riff playing the following chords.
F/G = 3X0011
C/G = 3X0010
D7/G = 3X0012
G = 3X0003

The whole idea is to play a G bass throughout the entire riff, while playing F, C, D7 and G chords on your 1st and 2nd strings and with leaving the 3rd and 4th strings open on each chord. Don't play the 5th string at all. You travis pick the entire riff, but each chord change starts out with a pinch of the 1st, 2nd and 6th strings. Here's the picking pattern. Notations inside the bracket indicate the pinch, strings you play together:
[T6, M2, R1], T4, I3, T6, R1, T4
You use the above picking pattern for all four chords.
I also have tablature written out, but would have to scan it in. I'm at Val Magee's in NY right now and don't have access to a scanner, but we could get it to you tomorrow. Reply to vlmagee@mageenet.net if you want the tab, and she'll get it to you tomorrow.

Cathy I am intersted in your GaddD chord. My very limited music theory tells me that the triad that makes up the Gmaj chord is G, C & D. Therefore there is no need to add the D, it is already there. I believe it is the 'perfect' 5th in the Gmaj scale.

The GaddD I'm referring to is a common chord. Instead of playing the third fret of the 1st string, play the third fret of the 2nd string. Many times, particularly on songs that are strummed, you can play the third fret of both strings.

I've tried it both ways. I like the sound of the D7, and it's a much easier change going from C/G to D7/G than going to D/G. It works for me, something like "Huk'd on foniks wirks fir me."

Thank you Cathy, for the explanation of the chord, I am familiar with the shape you describe, it is Liam Gallager's favourite chord shape, although he leaves his pinky on the e string 3rd fret, and moves his middle and index around from D to A7 to G to C. with a constant g & d note(s) ringing out on the high strings. Witness 'Wonderwall'
