I check in here many times a day from 6:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. and am on top of the SPAM etc. that occurs on every message board on the internet - and I am immediately deleting the stuff that doesn't belong when I see it.
Please don't reply to any of it. Most of them can be ignored until I delete them and I generally don't need to be notified of these posts. When I am notified with an alert about a post that is SPAM of any sort, I get it in my e-mail so I read it there, then I have it here as well and then I have the actual post to look at and then delete it. As I have stated several times I am deleting them as I see them posted here on the message board. Just ignore them and move onto other things. I will delete them. thanks, Char [ February 17, 2007, 21:01: Message edited by: charlene ] |

I wish Dave Sims in Kansas City, Missouri :) would pay the same attention to his "fan club" group at:- http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group...htfootfanclub/ where a few cretins (no not you Jessie Joe) insist on spamming mindless trash Thank you Char for reassuring us on this matter ,I will try to contain my natural reaction and not reply in future although it is sometimes hsrd to resist the notion. I do get a chuckle on the Newsgroup http://www.newsgroup.shorturl.com where very often Richard Harison replies to spam with the curt and cute message "You do and you'll clear it up" [ January 29, 2007, 10:13: Message edited by: johnfowles ] |
Thank you Char for getting rid of the SPAM. I really enjoy all the fine people here and am starting to get more comfortable posting. :)

I am away on vacation (july 20-aug.11) but am still doing my best to delete things when I do check in off and on during the day.. please ignore the SPAM and go to a topic that interests you. thanks.. char |
It's a computer that keeps posting that mess. They do it on myspace and youtube as well.

Hi timetraveler,
I second the wonderful words you wrote. :) |
in a
newsletter I receive from:- http://www.wxpnews.com/img/header02.jpg the editor was bemoaing the fact that she had had problems with her T-1 internet service which I gather is one of the common electrical specification for the signals on the wires of what I dimly recall from my days in the UK as ISDN. A precursor of DSL presumably and is therefore some sort of premium and supposedly reliable high speed service. BUT "Lately it seems the T-1 has gone down just about every time it rained. And it's been raining a lot in North Central Texas this summer. Usually it lasts anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, but this last week we had the mother of all outages: the T-1 died around 22:00 on Wednesday night and finally - after numerous complaints to Speakeasy, our provider, and assurances that they, Covad and the telco were working through the night to fix it - came back up on Friday around 16:00. interestingly she commented:- "They say every cloud has a silver lining and I guess the good thing about this experience was that I went an entire day and a half without seeing a single spam message. No bogus "ecards from a friend." No notices that my mortgage application has been approved at some amazing low rate. No attempts to sell me prescription drugs or adult videos or OEM software or weight-loss remedies or body enhancement devices. No huge discounts on fake Rolexes. No lonely guys and girls urging me to watch their web cams. No unreadable messages in foreign languages whose alphabets I don't even recognize. No unintelligible messages ostensibly in English consisting of "word salad" designed to confuse spam filters." Which seems to just about sum up the silly and pointless spam situation, she omitted the scourges of nearly every Yahoo group I subscribe to which are gradually being taken over by oddly named i.e computer generated members posting ludicrous messages about the attractions or otherwise of "biker boys" and spurious and probably completely worhless online degrees or medical qualifications all most annoying. Whilst writing I made a note a while ago of a particularly obnoxious and stoopid ersatz Japanese corfid member calling itself "JDAYIOPS" who professed to be a "peculiar" and/or "happy" professor and I am pleased to see that both his posting and his membership (member 4725) now are bereft of the anoying detail. Well done CHar This has been a Public Appreciation Posting from John Fowles Bt |
Re: PLEASE READ - SPAM/inappropriate posts/deleting
In my notes from Massey last November is a reminder to look at adding a captcha feature to the registration system used at corfid for new members since I reckoned that most if not all of the mindless drivel perpetrators who plague our Modem Maderator must be at best robots.
For those who do not know "Captcha" is a clever acronym for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA which pleases me greatly since the "father of the modern computer" (Alan) Turing was an old boy of the "public" (ie private fee paying) school in my home town of Sherborne, Dorset, England http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing I knew there were free captcha programs around and intend to invoke one to protect the two guestbooks on my own website from entries by idiots. and I thought this might be the solution to the ongoing problem of spammers on corfid . I have however just checked out the registration system here at corfid and having manually checked the box saying that I agreed to follow the rules here I was presented with this registration form, which as you can see already features a captcha. http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFO...m_register.jpg This seems to indicate that the spammers are in fact not robots under human control; but actual perverts who have nothing better to do with their life than create mayhem true malefactors of the internet population. Thank goodness for benefactors like Florian and Char So I am very sorry Char but it looks like your continuing efforts to remove the pests and their stoopid mesages will never end unless somebody has a better idea?? |
Re: PLEASE READ - SPAM/inappropriate posts/deleting

Yes Yes Yes Char I can see the problem you face especially well today because the spammers seem to have taken a shine today to corfid topics to which I am subscribed so I have in turn had to delete about 20-25 drivel filled emails from my inbox already. I have just asked google "how to stop spam on a forum"' this produced lots of useful results warning take an Ibroprufen first!! One interesting website I found was:- http://www.apromotionguide.com/stopping_phpbb_spam.html Also worth a read is http://spam-ip.com/how-to-block-forum-spam.php ignore the summary "Forum Spam Bots Forum Spam Bots Suck. That's really all there is to it. They are so frustrating, and to this day there is no full proof method for blocking them. You can integrate a captcha of some form, or even a question like What is 2+4 and some advanced bots can still get through. So all in all there is no full proof way to block forum spam. Let's look at a few of the more common and semi effective examples below." There may well be no fool proof way either but at least others can provide you and Florian with few ideas |

Re: PLEASE READ - SPAM/inappropriate posts/deleting
Todays SPAM postings were a record I think. I couldn't believe it! SPAM replying to SPAM! New threads, in old threads, posting threads and posts while I was deleting them..made me crazy!
I appreciate the kind words... it is time consuming to take care of but it has to be done or we'd never be able to wade through it to get to the real posts. I think I must have spent a total of at least 90 minutes in the last 12 hours deleting SPAM... I'm off to bed...we'll see what SPAM has in store for me in the morning..lol |

Re: PLEASE READ - SPAM/inappropriate posts/deleting
The spamming idiots are out in strength today seems like one ridiculous message a minute r9r anhour or more well done Char for removing the offending garbage so quickly. sometimes when nearly every spam reply is to a thread I am subsribed to I feel that they are picking on me. my own fault for replying myself to so many threads I guess,
It beats me how any non human can register here because the captcha should stop them methinks a more stringent method is now required probably no new member should be able to post until vetted and approved by the maderator |
Re: PLEASE READ - SPAM/inappropriate posts/deleting
I have a great deal of faith in Char to take care of the SPAM problem, so I don't pester her about it when I see it, 'cause I know that she'll handle it. :):):)

HOWEVER having said that I have to point out that she has so far overlooked the completely irrelevant drivel posted in a new thread a few days ago at:- http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=21412 Methinks it is high time the flying pig was shot down and removed from the member's list |

Char,
Perhaps if you tackled the rigours of a tutorial or two you might lift your game a touch (?) |

At the end of the dambusters display at the bottom are a number of suggested links to other Carling Black Label tv adverts In particular there is a famous one, featuring a popular UK male model named NickKamen who according to his wiki "He is most remembered, in the UK, for his 1985beefcake performance in Levi's "Launderette" television commercial,[2] where he strips down in order to stone-wash his bluejeans in a 1950s style public laundromat while he waits clad only in his boxer shorts, which dramatically increased their popularity. It was selected for, and came fourth in, The 100 Greatest TV Ads of all time in 2000." I had not previously realised being as how I tended to avoid tv commercials like the plague that the Carling advert was a brilliant spoof and urine take of the original genuine Levis advertas referenced above compare Levis on this page http://www.facebook.com/video/video....8376101&ref=mf Carling |
