"Anything For Love" was a hit song from EAST OF MIDNIGHT if I ever heard one, yet even though the record company realized this too & released it on 45rpm it didn't get the airplay it deserved and failed to make Top 40 in USA...go figure. ------------------ "...If YoU fEeL iT yOu BeTtEr BeLiEvE iT, yOu'Re GoNnA sEe It, YoU nEeD tO kNoW/iT iS rIsInG lIkE a FeAtHeR, dIpPiNg & DaNcInG fRoM bElOw/ThErE's A nEw WaVe ThAt Is BrEaKiNg In ThE wAkE oF a PaSsInG sHiP/eVeRy NaTiOn'S gOnNa Be ShAkEn, PuT iT tOgEtHeR, dOn'T lEt It SlIp..." |

How about "Somewhere USA" or "The Watchmans gone". Good commercial, accessible songs that would appeal to a wide range of tastes. Frank. |

Frank v,
You beat me to it . . . I was going to say The Watchman's Gone. Or how 'bout one of my all time favorites, High and Dry. Mary Ann |

How about 'It's Worth Believin'' or '2nd Cup of Coffee' ?

Another vote for The Watchman's Gone. Sundown was full of really marketable tunes. I go with Second Cup of Coffee, too. The House You Live In. I'm Not Supposed to Care.
Now Anything for Love was a moderate country charter here in US but tha's about it. To be perfectly honest East of Midnight doesn't rank up there for me in terms of production - for the most part the songs are as good as ever but I just doesn't sound like Gord's "sound" to me. Your results may vary.... |

Another two songs. Not his best but could have wide appeal. Slide on over and Fine as Fine can be. Frank. |

* Song For A Winter's Night (Gord's Gold)
* Tattoo * Whispers Of The North * Rainbow Trout **ANYTHING FOR LOVE (what went wrong here?) |

I believe "If You Need Me" was released as a single but wasn't given much push from the record company. It's one that should have been given better exposure. Ditto for "Daylight Katy", "Dreamstreet Rose", "Circle Is Small". All deserved a better push.

Forgive me lord...A surprise hit? (Despite the fact, that before last year,it wasn't even considered good enough for general release). Frank. |

I listened to "Race Among The Ruins" driving to work this morning. I thought it had to get my vote Frank.

I agree with Race Among the Ruins, either of the two daughter songs (Fine As Fine Can Be, Not Supposed to Care), Watchman's Gone, Never to Close, and Beautiful.
2nd Cup of Coffee, It's Worth Believin' and Slide on Over might have made it on country charts. ------------------ "And the laughter came too easy for life to pass me by." - SDYS [This message has been edited by 2Much2Lose (edited August 15, 2000).] |

"Anything for Love" was supposed to be a hit. It was designed that way. That's why David Foster produced that one cut on East of Midnite and it sounds so different from of the others.
It's a fine song to begin w/ of course, but the Foster Hit Stamp was on that arrangement and mix on purpose. And even then . . . The Rez ------------------ It was a Beautiful Rainbow A Beautiful Time in my Life A Thing to Share A Time to Care To Be Alive |
I'll Do Anything (from Shadows) always seemed like a song that Jimmy Buffett could really grab ahold of.
|
I think if Gord went and changed some the EOM songs to straight acoustic, like "I'll Tag Along",then they could have been hits. ..but then again it would have to be the '70s for that. Acoustic was MIA in the 80's! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I saw Gord do Anything for Love in concert years ago, when he did it he seemed uncomfortable performing it. The song produced by David Foster was intended to be the greatest Canadian love song ever written to bad it never turned out that way, it just didn't seem to be Gord's style.
