Only in Gord's mind. Though, I suppose, it may have been based on some real locale.

SomewhereupinMichigan 12-12-2003 07:46 PM

Here's what Gord has to say about Borderstone in the notes from Songbook:

"A knight of the road, going back to a place where he might get warm. Maybe there's family, maybe not. I have a fascination with trains, and this is about hopping a freight, which is something I have never done. It's sort of an old-fashioned song, the kind of thing Woody Guthrie might have done. Woody's all over everybody's stuff. He makes an appearance in 'The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald' when the cook says, 'It's been good to know you.' That's right from a Woody Guthrie lyric, 'So long, it's been good to know you.'"

I wonder if Gord ever uses any Burl Ives analogies?

Probably on a hiatus like I was. I wonder if he's having love problems to, only he just doesn't say anything?

Maybe he lost his library card?

BILLW 12-14-2003 09:38 PM

Well love him or hate him, he's one of us and if he doesn't show up soon I'm calling the cops to go track him down.

I betcha he finally took my advice and went and got a tattoo, starting smoking and got himself a major attitude. Some woman probably got a hold of him and he doesn't have the time to post. He'll be back a changed man.

Tyler 12-14-2003 11:55 PM

He hasn't posted since December 4th, and none of those postings said anything about being gone. Hope everything is okay.

He probably wants to see if anyone on here misses him.

SomewhereupinMichigan 12-15-2003 07:22 PM

Brink: I agree. I didn't realize he hadn't posted since Dec. 4th but that's highly unusual for him. Though didn't he say something in one of his last postings about having had a date that went very well? Maybe he just found something more interesting to do with his time. Anyway, I have kind of grown accustomed to his frequent postings and I agree with you that I hope nothing is wrong. Anybody know how to contact directly and check on him? Email addy, phone #, address? Hasn't he told us in the past that he works for Best Western somewhere out in the Phoenix area?

I think he posted on the 9th on Small Talk, didn't he? I agree with Somewhere. He's probably having a wild romance, having the time of his life. Hopefully, it's with a girl who appreciates Lightfoot. That just wouldn't be cool if she didn't.

Cathy you're right he was on small talk on the 9th. Still-has been close to a week, way too long for B. Hope you guys are right that he's out having a gay old time.

Matthew,

Know anything else about Borderstone? Like how to ask him if he's OK ?

Bill http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

SomewhereupinMichigan 12-17-2003 09:01 AM

Matthew: Sorry! I knew one of you guys worked at BW. Can you check on our friend Bstone?

RE: Borderstone...

That is the one thing I don't like about forums...you get attached to the people that post and then when they disappear, you have no idea what happened to them. Maybe they got bored or ticked off and left, OR, maybe something bad happened and you just don't know!!!

To me, the words that are typed here are more than just "words"...there are people behind the words...and I get attached to those people and miss them when they go away!

Anyway, I hope Borderstone is OK!

I've just checked over a few posts and BS says he usually posts from a small two storey library close to where he lives and not from the main downtown library.

How many libraries are there in Phoenix?

DMD3 12-17-2003 01:22 PM

Maybe he got all posted out. I'll bet he still reads the post, but for whatever reason, he doesn't post himself.

Gaby He sent a picture or a description of one of the libraries once, when I get home tonight I will try to hunt up that post. But-what if he doesn't wnat to be found?

Brink, difficult one, that!

I know I'm only a newbie but this just doesn't seem BS's style.

Hopefully he's stuck in hospital with a broken leg.

DMD3 12-18-2003 08:01 AM

He may've found another forum that he gets on. But I've been to a few and they were'nt as well organized as this one, though. He'll be glad to know he's getting all this attention, though. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

BINGO!!!
ah the power of the internet
further to the replies by Matthew and Gaby
in an earlier thread I eventually managed to get B a.k.a. Walter Lamont (his middle name) to sign into my lightfoot webring page's guest book as a private entry and he gave me his address thus knowing his zip code
I did a google search for "library" and the zip and then from a handy list of Phoenix library branches at:- http://phoenix.gov/PUBLIB/libjbapp.html
I found that there are two library branches in Phoenix with the same zip as B's
using mapquest.com revealed that the distances from B's to the library branches are:-
the first one I tried was precisely 3.54 miles probably a rather long jog away??
further investigation revealed a second banch
only 0.94 mile away (5 minutes by automobile)
I am now about to e-mail the relevant details to Matthew to take further including the branches'phone numbers
and suggested to him
"Worth trying to phone the branch first they just might have a record of his home phone number?? (maybe even the librarian is B's new girlfriend?!!!)And check if either of them is 2-storey
