Of the 16 Previously Unreleased Tracks, on " Songbook," do you have a favourite ?

Mine would be," You'll Still Be Needing Me." :)

By far, "Too Much to Lose". Would've, should've been a hit single....

My favourite is "Forgive Me Lord". I liked it the first time I heard it live at a concert in the 1980s.

I agree with "Forgive Me Lord". What a powerful song.

Hey there, imported_Next_Saturday, :)

This is strange but,"Too Much to Lose", would have been my choice as well. But on my 8 track tape of Old Dan's Records, instead of the song ,"You Are What I Am" ," it is actually "Too Much to Lose". I listen to that song for so many years, well around since 1972, when the Album came out. Loved the song very much but didn't know it's original title, until Songbook came out.

I would always buy the LP & 8 track tape, after that cassette tape and finally CD. But the song mix up, was only on the 8 track tape...

There are a few 8 track tapes out there, with this same recording mistake...

I think Val of that famous, www.gordonlightfoot.com Site, as got one as well, if I remember correctly ?

I may have a rare collectible 8 track tape of Old Dan's Record in my collection.

No, I don't have one of those rare 8 tracks with TMTL. I had a cassette copy, probably 3rd or 4th generation. When I was madly collecting, I used to buy the ODR 8 track on Ebay, hoping that I'd get one with TMTL - especially before Songbook was released.

So yes, you do have something rare. Wish I had one.

My song choices:

Too Much To Lose
Heaven Don't Deserve Me

And thanks for refering to my web site as "famous". That makes me smile.

A smile is worth everything, in this sometimes cruel world... :)

Really glad I made you smile Val. But your Site and Wayne's, are places I go visit very often. Great Lightfoot devotees you two are. If I was Mr. Lightfoot I would be eternally grateful, and would appreciate very much your devotions... :)

PS: I will trade you my Old Dan's Record 8 track, for your Martin D 18- GL signature edition... Ya right Im sure you will !!!

Re: SONGBOOK ! What is your favourite unreleased track ?

Never Say Trust Me and Forgive Me Lord. I read that Gordon wrote Never Say Trust Me for Kenny Rogers, but he decided not to use it.

Years ago at a concert in Merrillville, IN Gordon played another good one, Keepin' On Yearnin' and that tune just stuck in my mind. It was great to finally hear the complete song again years later on Songbook.

Re: SONGBOOK ! What is your favourite unreleased track ?

1. Stone Cold Sober (except for the awful orchestration)
2. Lifeline--it's a really different sound from most of his work, but the wordplay is really
sharp
3. Station Master
4. Too Much to Lose
5. Heaven Don't Deserve Me--I wonder what the missing verses were.

"You'll Still Be Needing Me" I don't know why that wasn't released, that voice... as smooth as butter.

Borderstone 11-07-2007 03:22 PM

Re: SONGBOOK ! What is your favourite unreleased track ?

Hey Rainbow, not just his vocal on "Needing" but the fact that it "doesn't" sound like it's from the 1960s. It sounds ahead of it's time. ;)

Re: SONGBOOK ! What is your favourite unreleased track ?

Yes, the early ones on disc one have that distinct Nashville sound, alot like Jim Reeves when I listen to them. Not the Gordon we all have come to recognize. You can hear the voice and style change as the cd's progress. I love this Songbook!!!!

Re: SONGBOOK ! What is your favourite unreleased track ?

I love mine too,I've had it 6 yrs & 3 months today! :)

I don't overplay it like when I first got it but just every now & then I play a certain CD or another.

Re: SONGBOOK ! What is your favourite unreleased track ?

Border, I've only had mine a couple of weeks. I am behind, but I have played it hard and long! It's a good thing I don't have many co workers around me! There are a few I skip over sometimes but love them all.

there's only 1 track that I don't really absolutely dig....but to me, the most infectiously cool recording right off the bat is (and still reigning):

Always on the Bright side

1. You'll Still Be Needing Me--what a great vocal
2. Stone Cold Sober--kinda sappy sounding, but great
3. Too Much to Lose
4. Heaven Don't Deserve Me
5. Borderstone

My favorite of the newer ones is probably Never Say Trust Me or Always on the Bright Side.

Also, I really like A Message to the Wind--forgot about that one. It's very romantic sounding. Nice vocal. Interesting chord changes, too.
