Yep. That's the one I was thinking of. :)

Jesse Joe 06-07-2006 03:48 PM

Very Good, Fading Away. :)

Next Quiz: What did Gordon say is favorite Guitar Chord was? This of course is for the guitar buffs out there. Good Luck!!! :) :D ;)

closetcanadian 06-07-2006 11:38 PM

I believe he said the D9 chord was his favorite as it can be played with only one finger! :)
Primary chord played on "A Painter Passing Through."

Next question:

What was the name of the song GL used to do in concert in the 1970s that dealt with cannibalism?

Doug 06-07-2006 11:56 PM

What was the name of the song GL used to do in concert in the 1970s that dealt with cannibalism?

Partners

closetcanadian 06-08-2006 12:05 AM

That is correct Doug. Gordon said he learned that song from Red Shea. Does anyone know who wrote the tune? I confess I do not so I'm hoping someone has the answer...

Jesse Joe 06-08-2006 06:02 AM

Gordon's favorite guitar chord is, "A". It can also be played with one finger. Maybe closetcanadian you heard him say D9, also? But the one I heard was the A chord. For the sake of having 'Peace.' Lets just say he's got 2 favorite guitar chords. JJ. :) :D ;)

The A chord primary used to play, Restless, Morning Glory, and many many more. It's a beautiful chord, my favorite has always been the "D" chord. Beginning to CRT.

I haven't got the answer for who wrote, 'Partners.' Maybe someone will?

Next Quiz.

In 1989-90, Marilyn MacKay interviewed our beloved Poet Genius. He told her the first song that he wrote, when being very young, was about what?? :D

HINT: It was about some invention, and they sold them by the millions. It was the ?/ craze.

Pretty sure our Charlady, probably knows this one. But yet again, I might be wrong??? JJ. :)

Jessi-Joe - and all guitar players out there:

I own a yamaha classical guitar and in High School waaayyy long ago took lessons from a friend-girl unfortunately not girl-friend as I'd of preferred. I spent most of my time looking at her, but did pick up here and there a few orts.

One such I ask of the gang here who really knows pickin' : she said Gord's music is full of "minor sevens", particularly D-minor 7, if I remember her correctly. Was she right ? I know that when I played a few of these chords, I could definately here some pertinent riffs from several defining songs of GL's "sound", or feel. Was she correct ?
geo Steve

p.s. Jessie-Joe, calling me Steve as you requested is sure fine; however as it was pointed out to me, there are several Steve's in the forum, not always present. Frequent though is Sydney Steve. For this reason, you may wish to use the group's habit of calling me Geo- steve, or "geo", or some such you'll see at times, g-man is ruled out though by another member who goes by that. I am ambivolent on the Q, but the precedent exists prior to your kind request. I'm cool with anything pertinent. :)
geo Steve

Jesse Joe 06-08-2006 08:03 AM

Geo-steve sounds good to me. D-minor. Among many more. Just go to www.lightfoot.ca Thats the Wayne Francis site devoted to Gordon. Once there, click to find Lyrics & Chords. Every song is there, and if you want you can check the guitar chords for each and everyone of them. Lots of A, Am, D, Dm , etc...JJ. :)

Urban legend has it that he was quietly sitting outside his house holding treats and hoping that Charlene and her kids would get lost
OK the really hard ones are coming now
whilst trying to find a suitable graphic (and phoning England brink snuck in and stole my thunder
I doubt if any Lighthead has ever heard it (or ever will for that matter) but it is pretty well known I taught that the craze was as demonstrated below by a svelte younger Omer
I won't spell it out because the word before "hoop" I just found may be spelt two ways:either with a "u" or a double "o"

At an annual Juno Awards celebration some 24/25 years ago Gordon Lightfoot was introduced by his good friend Alan Thicke. He said something like, I dont want this to sound like one of those warm dear personal friend type of introduction, that has gone on for a number of years. But I would like to say something special about our next guest. Most of us grew up, humming his music, some of us wishing we could play like him. I know him as a ?? when we play hockey together. So here he is singer, songwriter, ?? and friend, your appreciations for Mr.Gordon Lightfoot...

What did Alan Thicke called GL twice, at that Juno Awards program? Good Luck... JJ. :D  :)

You were close John, "Fine As fine Can Be," was written for his daughter, Ingrid. You had the name wrong. Ingrid's mother would have been Brita.

Jesse Joe 06-09-2006 04:07 PM

Gordon told Marilyn MacKay that he had ??? songs on record in 17 original albums. That was in 1990.

How many songs ???

Shutup and Deal, I'm Losin' 06-09-2006 05:32 PM

182? (Just a wild guess)

Tony Wesley 06-09-2006 07:39 PM

i seem to recall hearing 200 and thinking that Gord's estimate was on the low side

Jesse Joe 06-10-2006 07:01 AM

No your both close, John Fowles 2 & Fading Away. But remember this was in 1990.

Close but no cigars... JJ. :)

Jesse Joe 06-11-2006 09:08 AM

Swede, are you around? Can you answer this one?

Gordon told Marilyn MacKay, in 1990 that he had ??? songs, on record in 17 original albums. That was the number.

swede 06-14-2006 11:36 AM

I can only guess at this one. I'll say 172 - an average of just over 10 songs per album.

Jesse Joe 06-14-2006 01:24 PM

Right on the money, If your not Gordon Lightfoot, I will eat my guitar? LOL :D ;) :)

Jesse Joe 06-14-2006 02:09 PM

What did Gordon tell Peter Gzowski in the interview on CBC TV. "Gzowski In Conversation." About destroying some albums in a dumster? {1} Why destroy them? {2} And why they didn't want to have folks play them where?

<robby lake> 06-14-2006 04:28 PM

Toad,or a frog..is my guess.
Who played the melody one liner on the keyboard
on the sone "Shadows"?
I bet no fan knows that one except for me!
Mike Hefferman told me himself!

Jesse Joe 06-14-2006 04:36 PM

I do, I think anyway. It was Gordon Lightfoot himself, who did that job...JJ. :) :)

Jesse Joe 06-14-2006 04:38 PM

No toad or frog, not close no cigars... :D :)
