great as usual, brian....is that an apt sized piano or an organ perhaps? if you play could you record something using it?:)
...best of the season to you and yours (including your guitar) |

JJ
Yes, it's my Grandmother's upright Ivers and Ponds piano. Someday, I hope to play well enough to put something up, but not yet. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a great New Year. BTW, did you see the "Thursday" video. I had never heard that song before you mentioned it, but I really like it. Brian |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
thank you for the well wishes and for delivering my request so wonderfully, Brian! i only just heard it now after your headsup
yeah, you'd swear that Croce or Gord had written that one...i'd love to have hear Gord also cover it in his 'baritone' era...actually, Gord has paid tribute to many peers in covering their tunes and it wouldnt be too late to hear him slip it in a live set as an indirect and reciprocal type of tribute to Jim...well, ok, the chances of this are slim and nil, the latter being more likely btw, if you haven't come across this thread that Deb started a while back, there are some neat links and 'Thursday' tidbits found throughout http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread...thursday+croce cheers....you've got the Gord/Jim/Sal gene...fine company jj ...now don't forget those piano scales before bed each night |

ahh, something fresh, a real treat:)
great stuff Brain....in an old poll here I had picked this tune as my fave non-Billboard charting GL track...it contains one of my fave melodic and chord progression segments (ie. and as I wander through....etc)...thx for sharing I love the closeup video frame on this one! nice to met ya... ps) it could just be hibernationhead (aka bedhead) but seems you came out of your bearish slumber with a quite stylish Captain Kangaroo trim (jk) ;) |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
Very beautiful Brian ! :)

Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
wonderful! Like Lightfoot you make it seem so effortless..
lovely. |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
Captain Kangaroo? LOL I'm just happy to have hair, so it can go where it wants.
I always appreciate the nice comments from Corfid. I'm just glad there are so many avid Lightfoot fans gathered in one place. I have learned so much here. Thanks again, Brian |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
This man is great! Just heard him on YouTube for the first time. Hello all Corfidians, it's been a while since I was here. A lot of new names and topics.

Dont be a stranger post more often from Nfld. :) Yes indeed Brian sounds like a Gordon Lightfoot of the past.

Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
fine stuff, Brian...i missed the intro (same as outro?)...loved the instr section
i think the chording in the second verse works best with that melodic scale keep em gems coming and please get back to the video framing you used for Ordinary Man...i'm also thinking of sending you a 100watt bulb:cool: |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
JJ,
I shun the bright lights, and besides, in California we're eco-friendly. That would mean a 27 watt fluorescent, which we would then pretend was not laden with mercury. Thanks, and yes the intro was cut off a bit . |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
LET IT RIDE
in the absence of jessie joe (where is he?) i relay this to all...here is an 'in studio' add! :):):) what a long overdue treat for us fans of Gord and Brian http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=.../6/W2PIK8_6gwY ...hey, i didn't know you were acquainted with '7 island suite' bob:) |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
i am bringing this back to the top because most may think this is "just" another Brian cover (as most know, all of them are treats!) but you should check out the voice and guitar sound IN STUDIO, plus some added work by Bob
i have since checked out Bob's site and just LOVE his old American family photos....do yourself a favour and check out the studio cut and Bob's family moments locked in time...these are the type of pics that belong in a Burns doc both these guys are multi-talents you also must check out Brain's originals...i believe he's about to break through |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
this is WONDERFUL...i hope all do themselves a favour and catch this
this is true talent...and taste congratulations, Brian and friends!! |
Re: Brian E. sings Gordon Lightfoot / A Great Voice !
Thanks JJ for bringing this up for us to see and hear.
I'm not savvy keeping up with all the stuff that's out there but having you on board with your expertise sure is a plus for all who come here to catch all the great things that are happening in our world of Gord tunes. This particular video shows it very well. It's much like the original sound that we would hear live in Massey Hall when it was just Gord, John and Red up there sounding out those notes. And of course anyone who was there at that time would surely connect with what's going on here with Brian and friends. Brian's voice just nails it like none other than Gord's. I've never heard a closer one than his. Truly great stuff. RJ. |
