Re: Lightfoot Cover Show: Aurora, On, on May 2/09
Wow! What an amazing fun gig and week long holiday this turned out to be.
An honor indeed it was to get to hang out and work with these wonderful and talented artists. And to be there at the same table with Char, her daughter Lisa, my two sons, Liam and Greg, and my very special friend Eileen, who, together with her lovely family puts me up and also puts up with me when I travel to Toronto; could I really ask for more? The show finished with all of us back on the stage together singing "Rich Man's Spiritual," and although I slept through most of the flight back to Vancouver, upon landing I woke with feeling like I was wearing the "long white robe and "golden slippers." And last, but not least, my "smiling angel" was at the door to greet me when I arrived home. Very blessed I am. RJ. |

and my dear RJ played chauffeur for me and Lisa too - picking us up in Toronto and then driving us all the way home after the evening was over! We had a wonderful time from the very moment we saw him till he pulled away from the house. It was great to share the night with RJ's sons and his friend Eileen and I hope we can all get together again later this summer when RJ is back here..and maybe James can make it too..along with John and Paul and the gang. We'll try to make it work out! thanks RJ !! |
Re: Lightfoot Cover Show: Aurora, On, on May 2/09
The pleasure was all mine Char and yes it would be wonderful to do it all again and hopefully make it a sort of tradition an keep it alive.
On another note, I recall when we returned from our little jaunt out to get food, Paul Bartlett was sitting on his stool playing Johann Sebastian Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." This masterpiece of music I understand was a favorite of Red Shea and Paul plays it very beautifully. I'm not sure if the cameras were rolling at that particular time but it really would be treat for the folks if that special moment was captured. Cheers, RJ. |
Re: Lightfoot Cover Show: Aurora, On, on May 2/09
if the cameras weren't rolling then we'll have to talk him into playing it the next time he gets together with John and John captures it on video for us..
that works for me... ;) |
Re: Lightfoot Cover Show: Aurora, On, on May 2/09
Can each of you list the tunes you sang at the show in Aurora? and the tunes Paul's wife sang?
John - any more videos from the other camera that was running? |
Re: Lightfoot Cover Show: Aurora, On, on May 2/09
morn'n,
I have the videos from the other camera...got them from Paul. ..his was the other camera. Haven't gone through them all yet. (see thread in Covers--'Softly') I can list the ones Paul and I did but not Tim or Ron's ..... had a list of theirs but thats gone now. (maybe ..once i view the dvd's from paul's camera ..and if they are all there...i can make a note..be happy to) Did She Mention My Name Rainy Day People Pony Man I’ll Do Anything Somewhere USA Bitter Green Steel Rail Blues Ballad Of The Yarmouth Castle Spainish Moss Cotton Jenny High And Dry You Are What I Am Cold On the Shoulder Pussy Willows Cattails Early Morning Rain If You Could Read My Mind Song For A Winters Night Wherefor and Why Inspiration Lady Second Cup Of Coffee I'll Tag Along Wreck of the Edmund Fitz Old Dans Records Talking In Your Sleep I'm Not Supposed To Care Bold are the ones up on YOUTUBE...the ones we'll be sued over. |

That is until the bill arrives of course.. OK back to the songs; and oh yeah wasn't that a fun night though eh? So the tunes as Char requested are: "Triangle," "Canadian Railroad Trilogy," "Same Old Obsession," The Circle is Small," and "Don Quixote." Beautiful little Canuck town outside Toronto where the country kinda comes a stealing in subtly in that country way. It's Aurora town, the hometown of the master accomplished lead guitar composer for Gordon Lightfoot; Red Shea, and his sound was alive and well in that hall with his two fine students, John Stinson and Paul Bartlett leading the show. Very enjoyable evening it was thanks again guys and gals for putting it all together. Cheers, RJ. |

John,
A little late after the show, but I just wanted to say that I thought you performed great and your rendition of B of Y was "A1" as they say! As you know from bros Paul, that is one of my favourite songs from GL's. Want to add that it was great getting all the other GL fans under one roof! Hope to see many of you in Nov. Best to all, |
