I can see Lightfoot being appalled for copywrite infringement, but I just can't him caring at all about the bickering. Selling is entirely different than fans trading or sharing. Maybe I'm wrong though.
From my experience in speaking with Gordon I feel as though he couldn't possibly care less about the bickering, etc. He already has a negative attitude about the Internet. Besides, he's had so much turmoil in his own personal life that this stuff wouldn't even register.

I know that copyright infringements upset him a great deal. And he would certainly understand fans trading rare items that aren't availavle on the mainstream market. No harm there. But he would be beyond livid if he were to discover that someone is not only impersonating him on the Internet but also communicating with his fans. The person responsible will rue the day they put that profile up should he ever discover it. The fur will fly. (IMO)

Watchman/Al - I was sad to read that you would have never hassled Steve about not using paragraphs had you known he had a brain injury. He does not owe you an excuse or a reason for not using paragraphs. He was not attempting to provoke anyone. He was simply trying his best to communicate. Why was that not good enough for you?

Did the Spelling Police come along to publicly ridicule you for not correctly spelling "CopyRIGHT"? No. So let's just accept each others' quirks & foibles. He's made several attempts to reach out to you in a genuine spirit of forgiveness and friendship. I'm sad to see you couldn't be more gracious about it.

Nice posts, Steve. You are a very BIG man. I admire your courage and determination.

Great, we agree on that. My question was rhetorical. Besides, you all have aired his "turmoil" too many times to count.

Why would that make you sad? So, you would rather I "hassle" Steve knowing full well that he had a brain injury? That's sick. Move on.

What planet are you from? Seriously, come back down to earth and put down the crack pipe. You are putting words into my mouth which I do not appreciate. Head games, stop playing them please. Again, re-read my posts once you put your crack pipe down.

Spelling police no, but I was corrected. Even if somebody said "get the dictionary Watchman! You spelled it wrong you moron!" I would laugh and say, crap, I did spell it wrong. Besides, in the past, I HAVE BEEN SCOLDED FOR MISSPELLING THINGS and I never made an issue out of it because it's no big deal! I've been called much worse things here than a moron. I been told much worse things then quoting the dictionary too. Good grief man, give it up.

Misty, as long as you are going to put words into my mouth, which is a form of lying as far as I'm concerned, I will not continue with any further communications with you. Grow up and learn to read.

Mary/someday/changes:

You were banned from this website months ago.

You clearly "unblocked" Char just long enough to fire off more venom.

I've never addressed this issue before. As you know I liked you very, very much in the beginning, Mary. I was fully supportive of you & concerned about all your many personal dramas/issues. My heart truly went out to you. And I was thrilled when you where able to meet & spend time with Gordon. WE ALL WERE. (very much so and that's the truth no matter what your "true friend" said)

Until I saw you foolishly fall victim to the one person here with a long-standing personal agenda/vendetta against Char. You were new here so you, of course, had no clue. What began as your possible concern about being suddenly "ignored" by other members quickly became hurt feelings. And with that this certain member began fanning the flames until your hurt feelings exploded into paranoia and rage.

You weren't "ignored" Mary. But I did notice that in your happy enthusiasm you posted dozens of topics, per day, all about your personal life AND those of your friends. You posted about the many aspects of each and EVERY one of your days... Such as discovering CAD systems, etc. It was just exhausting to keep up with so after a while people just backed off. If you look at this site we don't get very much into each other's personal lives EVERY SINGLE DAY. And we don't start several topics, per day, about each and every day of our existence. Personally, I just lost interest in your topics but I thought, "Oh, she's new.. she has to learn on her own. It's cool. Just give her time to learn on her own through her own experience." I know lots of people here and everyone liked you. I had just assumed they, like me, shyed away from so many personal topics each day.

And someone saw your vulnerability and made full use of it. You were used to create turmoil here. It worked. Please do some serious soul searching about this. Because you do not want to continue your life being used like this. It makes you a Fool.

I've known Char for 6 years and I've seldom known a person with a kinder, more supportive and generous heart than hers. Mary - you broadsided her in a very big way. She was totally clueless by your attacks. And no one deserved this less than her.

On Judgement Day you will know the truth and be so very ashamed of yourself & mortified by your ignorant stupidity. Because you were "had" by a viscious person an innocent person was harmed in the process.

So I can no longer be supportive of you in any way. You have, yet again, taken it "too far."

MistyMoppens,

Just in case you missed it...in one of his postings Watchman rightfully criticized me for "jumping to conclusions" (a cliche, not his words).

But I will maintain that one would have to be either ignorant, careless, naive or duplicitous to allow the appearance that Lightfoot is appealing to the MySpace community for friends.

Know your friends,

RMD

hey bill... i'm here finally!

hey al... good to see you posting!.

back to the original topic of images:

i'm not supposed to be looking at "non work related stuff" in the department. i still do it though!. if its just text, who knows what you're reading? - could be work related. so i try and do it quickly. in A LOT of cases, while i'm quickly flicking through text on this site, a huge picture will suddenly take over the screen as it loads up. then i have to quickly do the alt-tab job to another screen... still its enough for people to see, i'm dodging something shifty!

i agree there are too many non-gord related images posted.

as for the board in general, compared to some message boards i visit, this one is quite ok. i'm a three stooges fan - on that forum, the moderators will ban you if you dont use capital letters or proper punctuation!

on dylanpool, you can get away with any political/religious insults and use whatever language you want

thats my 2 cents worth...

over to you, borderstone! :D

Thank you. :)

Nice, Char is deleting my posts now. Looks like somebody doesn't like to look in the mirror. I would never "rat" anybody out, but at the same time, wanted to put an end to the psychobabble and hypocrasy. I see he deleted his post, but since I quoted him, his nonsense still remained so the only way to get rid of his garbage, you deleted my posts for him. Too bad he had to stick his nose into something that he knew nothing about. I don't fault him for that, but he shouldn't have come into this the way that he did.

My initial post was a "if the shoe fits, wear it" kind of thing. Some of you jumped right in and put the shoes on, which surprised me because the people whom my return was directed at, haven't posted yet, nor will they. Their like rats scattering to the bushes when they see headlights.

I left this site but it wasn't enough for some of you. So you had to continue to talk trash behind my back which is normally fine. But you couldn't just leave it there you had to bring my beliefs into the picture once again and then put me into one of your little theories of who is who on corfid and who's friends with you. :) So damn childish but again, trash my beliefs and my ears perk up. This time I felt the need to set the record straight.

More than one cofidian has started posts out to me talking trash and then say, "can we be friends? I'm offering this to you and I'm offering that to you." Come on, get a life.

One good thing, you all seem to be getting along a lot better now. I told you the common enemy thing would work! Don't worry, I'm not here to post in the latest riddle solver thread.

I've said all that I have to say, but if any of you continue with garbage posts to me, I will respond this time.

charlene 06-22-2006 07:56 AM

I deleted nothing.

The owner of this site has that ability just as I do.

Don't assume anything you don't know about.

geodeticman 06-22-2006 08:00 AM

Watchman,
You know, I did re-read my posts to you above. I looked for any signs of forked-tongue words that could be innocently misintepreted by you as such, and see by and large, frankly, a preponderance of an eggregiously groveling attempt to make friends with you. I am sorry - that must have sounded disingenuous.

I can see your point about the "little darts here and there...sorta..", but I thought you spoke of not being too fragile. I am however very sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Please make no mistake I am being genuine, and trying very hard to be on a friendly basis. And, that does mean putting some old wounds to healing for both of us. Let's call it , on both our parts, a well-meant misunderstanding of one another.

I am surprised after all these attempts I have made, you would still comment on my typing gettng worse. I am sorry - I got back from a very difficult day of physical rehabilitation today.

Neurologically I have a ways to go. But, I'll take my licks like a man, it's cool. I am not angry, I am just a little too old and the bark's peeling here and there too much !

I personally know I am being genuine and trying to be a stand-up guy, after 26 years of faithful marriage, and a beautiful 24 year old daughter who is about to marry a great guy, and a career I love. Can't wait for the Doc to say go back, OK ! :)

I am "back" enough to see I have embarrassed myself by offering my hand in friendship, depite the little flotsam and jetsam of advice for you. That comes a bit with age. Its called referential respect. But I can see you are not open to it. I am open to yours; this final response being evidence.

I will endeavour to consider your thoughts. But, please let US not overestimate our respective impacts.

I am quite relaxed, It is interesting you corrolate that with my typing gettinh worse. That is whats called a spurious corrolation. aka aint got nothin' to do with it.

But thank you, because I am really trying to improve my written communications before i return to work; this helps. You are to be commended for your kind assistance in pointing it out ! You know, the way in martial arts, when you get hit, and say "thank you" - for exposing the others flaw in form by being hit.

You know, Watchman, I'll bet if you and I were to sit down and comapre notes on life, love, religion, and all, we'd probably be surprised what great thoughts and dreams we share !

But I am , again, "back" enough to see rather ,....clearly... that you'd rather not let it all go, with regard to our abortive attempt to be friendly posters to one another. You need not say more.

Should you decide to stay in the room, you can count on anytime you wish to post to me, you can count on barbless wire on the range.

Maybe sometime we can call one another friend, but I think it won't kill either one of us to not make it today. I wish we could be though.
I really do think you made several fair points historically and presently here and there; all a matter of degree and perception seemingly making the difference. You seem slow to trust - thats probably good. Quick friends we both know are short time friends, usually.

Unequivocably this time, tongue all in one piece ;) (no forks !) - peace be with you Watchman - I truly hope that which troubles you with regard to the room - I know nothing of these conspiracies and PM's, and other things in life if any that trouble you (and who doesn't) - be comforted by your faith - I do not judge you. I just still think you are a good guy on many right tracks. I hope these "train tracks" converge and coalesce into what you want.
- Steve

Just asking? This is not directed at you Joveski. It is directed at those who dont like what me and John Fowles post, and they complain to the moderator. Guitars are a part of Lightfoot's life. I know it's not only guitars or how many, but where do we draw the line?

As you so astutely observed J-J "not a lot" but at:-
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drm...763061,00.html
I read these (almost) linking sentences in a Canadian supergroup Bare Naked Ladies review:-

"The Canadians are an odd breed in how they choose favorites," Page said. "I thought we'd be, like, 49th. I was watching with my kids and I thought we had missed it. They played American Woman (by the Guess Who) and then Heart of Gold (by Neil Young). Then they played $1000000."

The ditty full of wordplay and cultural references also bested legendary tunes by Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn and Leonard Cohen. "The song has come to mean something special to a lot of people. It represents memories of good times, of trips abroad and of family. People come to feel it again," Page said."
and
"including the silly band name Page and Robertson came up with while sitting bored at a Bob Dylan concert.
"Early on Ed and I got a job opening for Corky and the Juice Pigs. They were like the Three Stooges meets the Ramones," Page said."
I always wanted to know how they got that name now we can blaim it on Joveski's favourite!!!

Shutup and Deal, I'm Losin' 06-22-2006 03:52 PM

Actually, Geo-dude, your typing isn't near as bad as it was before. Still just tad long, but very readable. You're separating your posts into paragraphs now, and that's a big help. You're doin' much better now, keep it up. :)

joveski 06-22-2006 04:12 PM

the three stooges bit isnt anything to do with pictures. i was comparing how this board more relaxed to that one.

as for the pics, i've never complained to a moderator about them... actgually never complained to a moderator about anything!

charlene 06-22-2006 04:15 PM

JJ - there is no need for anyone to contact me or Florian because someone mentioned something in a post.

Joveski "mentioning" the 3 Stooges (and Dylan) is a poor example of the point you are trying to make.

You know as well as I that he did not start a topic about them in the wrong forum nor has he insulted anyone.

However it is not lost on me as to what point you really are making.

your friend,
Char

Your friend >>>JJ.

Hey Jessi-Joe, let me see if I can shed some light on what some of us are talking about.... Joveski used the Three Stooges forum as a comparison to this one, making the point that this one ain't so bad. He didn't post a picture of the Three Stooges within his message - that's the difference. I personally have no problem with your thread of all the guitars and various stuff - because it is a thread of it's own, I don't have to deal with any of those pictures since there is no discussion in that thread that I have an interest in (meaning that I don't even bother opening it, now that I know what it is). However, all these unrelated pictures that folks post within a discussion thread are what I'm talking about (and based on those who have posted similar thoughts, I imagine it's what they are talking about as well - but I can't speak for them). This thread alone has some examples - not posted by you or John, but still examples of what some of us are talking about. Just because some of us don't care for all the visuals, for varying reasons, doesn't mean that we think any less of the people who post them - you're still great guys. All we're suggesting is that we keep the "discussion threads" as text and have some other place, or designated thread - such as your guitar thread, for pictures to be posted. Contrary to the common belief, a picture is not always worth 1000 words :)

Doug
As a fellow old AMLer too, I remember you but as I recall you said you did not remember me, back then ( circa '2000) as mapgeek, and similar names when i changed ISP's.
Point is, I coudn't agree more with your points. I do believe most have had good intentions and are truly fine people, its apparent that several very distressing things have happened. Since I don't know all the stories, I simply share your dismay at such unpleasantness from a few reflecting poorly on a fine group.

Wishing you well ole' plumb - I miss the day in AML when live chat was the rule every day. I truly think we got to know each other better that way, and had correspondingly fewer problems day to day as I recall.

Awfully good group in here though, with thoughtful moderation and administration. Hope to here from you more again old friend. I realize my new name is not registering with you from our PM quite a while back, But thats cool - just good to hear from you again.

I envy you that beautiful San Diego weather. Do you go to Gord's old favourite "put-in" slip at Humphrey's By The Bay concert venue/hotel/etc. out on the Island ( more of an isthmus, but that doesn't quite roll off of the tongue LOL) for concerts ?
Steve aka mapgeek mapman GISman from prodigy chat days of GL then AML , now here.

[/QUOTE]Let's try this again....

Steve, I do remember you and I believe I posted that here. I still have a communication you sent me on July 13 1997.

San Diego is indeed a beautiful area to live in. Fortunately I purchased a home when they were still affordable for the working class. We went to the Padre game last night and it was cool enough that some around were wearing jackets. The ballpark is almost on the bay which keeps it cool and breezy.

I last saw GL here last April, at an indian casino called Sycuan. That was his first full performance after his "mechanical failure".

We've got tickets for the Aug 27 performance at Humphreys.

geodeticman 06-26-2006 06:24 PM

Thanks Doug,

Sorry I forgot your first reply. I do remember that now. Its the memory thing - no need to elaborate medically anymore :)

Every year there is a practical-learning conference in what I do when I am working - almost back medical-wise ! (Geographic Info Systems - GIS Mapping) at the San Diego Conference Center. The one with a sail-fabric-covered giant patio. Its on the main North-South drag. It woyld say ESRI Annual Conference 2006
It sshould be starting any day. You can see the map exhibit from users of the software for free w/o general exhibit if it interests you (long-shot !).

I have friends in La Jolla and love all the lush gardens in the precariously-perched finer homes in the area. Beatiful. I do like the isthmus-island that Humphreys-By-the-Bay is on, and have heard Gord used to love putting in there to a slip not momre than 75 feet from his lawn venue. I guess that would have been "Sundown" (the boat) before he sold it around 1982 ?? . I staued at Humphrey's for an ESRI Map conference several years back, was a bit musty/mildewy, but since it was only missing a GL concert there by 2-weeks I could have kicked myself !

I hope business is good for you Doug,

Again, I am embarrassed I forgot our previous conversation of same a while back.

From your profile, speaking of teaching seminars, it looks as though professional plumbing licensure in Calif. is a pretty rigorous CE units State, as is Surveying and Mapping Science is in Colorado.

Thanks for the note - I'll tie a memo to my nose to not write on same "remember me?" duhhh thing,

LOL - u take care - Steve
