Ah, but we don't book local music acts - we book National and International performers - who are not new acts, just sometimes new to our concert goers. Plus, our venue isn't a club - we have a listening room type venue. We actually do a good job booking some well known folks who sell out our 250 seat venue, but it's those acts who sell out in other parts of the country, but are unkown in our little world, that pose the problem. They are really great, but because we don't have any good independent radio stations that play good music - all we get is the Clear Channel pablem - the folks around here aren't familiar with them. The nice thing is, that the people who have come to trust us and know that Carey wouldn't book someone who wasn't great, and who do take the chance are always glad they did. We just wish there were more of them :)

Jesse-Joe, I too like John Mellencamp! I even liked him back when he was known as John Cougar. One of my favorite albums of his was released under the John Cougar name - the album is "Nothing Matters And What If It Did?" Great album...I love the hit from it, "Ain't Even Done With The Night" plus there were other really good songs on it.

Sorry, you only get to pick one #2 fave, no laundry list. It's tough, but if you were on a deserted island with only GL's entire collection, which one other collection would you need to have? Hurry, your ship is sinking...

Since Char took the most obvious, I'd say Crosby, Stills & Nash, for "Southern Cross"! Where I'll be in 29 days! OMG - I can hardly stand it!

Of course Gordon reigns supreme, but my No. 2 is Tom Russell. I always make a point of catching him in concert when he tours over here (UK) he does small intimate venues, interacts with the audience and writes great songs.

A couple more names to consider, Larry Gatlin his early albums were great, just try to get through listening to Penny Annie, or It Must Have rained in Heaven on Cruxification Day, without thinking about these songs afterwords.

Don Francisco probably best known for He's Alive, his way of turning a passage from the bible into a song is something else. Listen to "She's one of the walking wounded " on
you tube and tell me it doesn't affect you

Here's another Roger Whittaker famous for "The Last Farewell" . Gordon did some whistling on some of his early songs. Ribbon of Darknesss for one. But it would be hard to beat Roger Whittaker for whistling talent.

Roger Whittaker, here is a guy that I always liked. Great 12 string guitar player, incredible voice, and of course the whistling  is unbelievable !

He has enjoyed so much to play in CANADA his entire carrer, that he wrote a great song for this country, entitled "CANADA IS."

Maybe only Gordon Lightfoot could have written something as beautiful as this GEM ! :)

agreed jjo, he and perhaps Alexander Muir

...I don't know how this version and occasion couldn't have inspired the Leafs to win their last game against the lowly BlackHawks as they closed Maple Leaf Gardens....they should have taken Sundin's "C" away following that performance

I've still got the VHS video of Anne singing at centre ice somewhere here...don't know why this guy posted audio only (and the Ontario flag only, lol)

eh? lol...yes, stellar, and imo, the high moment of the 4 hour event

i liked the added touch when they had Paul Morris (we miss him) do the Last Minute call...but there was actually 90 seconds to go...maybe that's why, after so many decades, he was let go, lol

don't know if you get to see Don Cherry when you watch Habs games but nice closing to coach's corner last night where a wonderful short taped clip showed Don urging folks to support vets during November

also, check out JP Cormier's 'Afghanistan' tune on youtube, nice

I watch Don on "Coach's Corner" every Saturday Night that Im at home. I will watch the Habs on RDS, but switch to CBC for that first period intermission. Yes I did see it last night. Don't always agree w/ Cherry, but he has a good heart. :)

Johhny Rivers greatest hits with the live versions is a great disc to keep you awake, when you're driving late at night. With Memphis, Maybelline, Secret Agent Man, Mountain of Love etc.

I missed Cherry last week but heard he went over the top (if there is such a thing) about the troops...Harry's uncle is now back and knew about the Afghanistan tune...funny, he brought pearls from Dubai and sent him a 'medal' he could show at skool...not surprisingly, Harry put on the pearls, lol...char has posted the video in case any missed it, nice work:)

ps) what happened to the Habs last week vs Toronto, jessi? lol

They lost.... badly !

Again the other night against the Bruins. Coach Guy Carbonneau isn't to please with his club as of late. Carey Price gives out a lot of fluke goals, no defence help. They will regroup as they always do... :)

Tonight at The Bell Centre facing The Flyers... Halak in goal !

Re: Your #2 Favorite Singer/Band?

well, i thought they were Cup faves...great start otherwise...i remember Habs being all Frenchmen in the 70s when they used to beat up on the Leafs and others...great powerplay and speed....now they are all Russians, no? lol

Jesse Joe 11-15-2008 11:31 AM

Re: Your #2 Favorite Singer/Band?

Some Russians for sure, as other teams have as well. Great show at The Air Canada Centre last Saturday for the veterans. Better than the game itself. Mind you I dont hate the Leafs, they are my # 2 for obvious reasons... "You Got love The Leafs." ~gl~ :)

Cherry always gets misty when he talks of the military..
nice montages of the troops we've lost in Afghanistan and then the WW2 vets coming out on the ice for the anthem and meeting the new inductees into the HHOF .. lovely.
crazy game tho..

Right On CHar ! :)

Grapes always gets misty is probably the word, he gets all choked up and finally he cant speak anymore about the troops.

But hockey talk hey that's another thing... I never miss Coach's Corner.
