O.K., just received in today's mail: GL's Sunday Concert (Plus), Summertime Dream, AND the United Artists Collection! Just finished listening to Summertime Dream, love it, OF COURSE. Am now listening to (and am in HEAVEN...) Sunday Concert (he's singing CRT!!!). Man, oh, man, what a beautiful voice this man's got..... mmmmmmm.

Home From The Forest is also on Classic Lightfoot the best of Vol. II.
Greetings from Victoria. |
I need to amend (read: take back) what I said earlier. On one album (yeah, yeah, CD, it's my age talking, hehe) I mentioned I didn't much care for the three songs at the end. One was Triangle and the two songs after it. Well, I got to feeling guilty, so I listened to that CD over and over and, darn it, don't you know that by the end of the next evening, I love those songs, too!! As a matter of fact, Triangle is one of the songs my 11-year-old daughter (who I've hooked on GL now!) requests!! So, there -- I've nothing but love for the man and ALL his songs. MMMMMWAH!
Also, I have several new favorites that I hit the "repeat" button on my car CD player: Tattoo, Romance, Knotty Pine, Saturday Clothes. Oh, to mention the new one, Harmony, my special favorites are: River of Light, No Mistake About It, End of All Time, Shellfish, Sometimes I Wish. I've been spoiling myself and just re-playing over and over the CDs I've already listened to, so haven't started on Sunday Concert or UA Collection yet. I will, I will! I'll listen to those when I'm home at night and the kids are in bed, so I can take it all in and really concentrate and just relax and listen. God Bless GL. Well, I'm doing my parenting job properly. Alex, my oldest, just had me order 5 more GL cd's!! (She already has Dream Street Rose.) She's ordering: Harmony, Summertime Dream, Shadows, Salute, and Don Quixote. Excellent choices, IMHO.
Oh, and remember how we were discussing in another thread, I think, about how none of us thought of dancing to a GL song? Well, I found one I'd actually like to slow dance to: If There's a Reason. |
Just got Songbook and GG II. My collection is now COMPLETE!! I have been listening to Disc 1 and am currently listening to SFAWN <sigh> I'm only 8 songs in. My favorites are, of course, SFAWN, The Way I Feel, and A Message to the Wind. Wish I was older, then I could have listened to his stuff earlier (when it was originally out). (Can you imagine anyone wishing they were older?) I'm in absolute heaven. Now, CRT is playing. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Yesterday, I was going to pick up my 9-year-old from a friend's house and my 5-year-old fell asleep after listening to "Softly." (I had pushed the Repeat button, so it was playing over and over.) I'm a sucker for his romantic songs, could ya tell? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif Oh, and I just love the liner notes and photos!! I'm still looking through it as I type this. Well, maybe not at the same time. I'd need 3 hands (like Cathy) to do that, hehehe. Well, next report, probably tonight or tomorrow, folks!

Interestingly Sheryl now that you have visited our chat room and "met" Susan and I you might like to read her account of how soon after we met and when we were all playing the recently-released (May 1999) Songbook disc by disc in sync she suddenly got extremely lightheaded and when "Same Old Loverman came around (Disk 2 track 11) she brazenly asked me to dance . So we pretended to do so in a virtual manner and the rest as they say is history:- it's here on the Newsgroup:- http://ourdance.notlong.com John Fowles P.S. Apologies to those who have read that before [This message has been edited by johnfowles (edited December 15, 2004).] |
John, are you serious? You met your wife, Susan, in the NG chat??? (O.K., now that I've posted this, I'll go back and read what you linked...)

Absolutely serious Sheryl we had our pic in the Toronto Star and the similar story made it into the Montreal Gazette and is still on-line at:- http://www.exn.ca/Stories/2000/03/22/05.asp Or if you'd rather read it squinty-eyed try this Chinese link:- http://tech.sina.com.cn/news/interne...21/20575.shtml My "15 minutes of fame" John Fowles |
Wow!!! Oh, John, Susan, that's fantastic!! I'm so happy for you both!! (A bit belated, I know!!) I had no idea!! Well, my husband and I met via computer dating. Perhaps that's a bit similar! We talked on the phone several times. I really liked his voice. And, even though we were strangers, there were no "pregnant pauses" in our conversation. Another good sign. And, he's from Toronto and a Lightfoot fan!! Wowee! So, John, what were you doing living in England at the time and what made you decide to come to America instead of Susan going there to live after you were married? I just love love stories and hearing how people met.

OK, it's late, almost midnight, and I'm listening to more songs on Songbook. Just finished listening to The Last Time I Saw Her -- LOOOOVE it. Wow. What a writer, what a voice, what a man. <sigh....> I'm about to fall asleep now.... so, I'll write more tomorrow.

OK - we're all entitled to our own opinion. Answer me this: do you like EMR? 'Cause I don't like that one! I know, that probably makes me a pariah...

Yes, I like EMR, and the first time I heard Gord's Gold, I thought Gord did a very good job with Peter, Paul and Mary's song. I think the lyrics are great. They perfectly describe a guy who is away from home and down and out on his luck. The imagery is great. Cathy http://www.cathycowette.com |
