Miguel is a great song. Just about the only song I do not like on that album, well I shouldn't say dont like, like the least is the title track, "Summer Side Of Life." Overly produced, as if, Foster had something to do with it. :)

Never heard of Josh Groban. Willie Nelson doing any Lightfoot song would be interesting. He's great.

It's cooling off here too, thank goodness. I hope it lasts throughout the week. We're going on a mini-retreat to Starved Rock this upcoming weekend; can't wait to hit the trails and chill out overlooking the bluffs and ravines. I wonder if we'll spot any eagles? It's supposed to be a good year for it.
I could totally hear Bocelli covering a few of those Lightfoot ballads. Nice voice! I would love to hear a woman cover "For Lovin Me". I think Shania could pull that off nicely, she's got just the right amount of sass to do it |
Yes indeed to Shania Twain. "I got a hundred more like you, so dont be blue , Ile have a thousand for Im thru." Maybe she wouldn't like the words??? JJ. :)

I think he had a special on CBC last fall, Char. It was very good.

Paul Simon - "It's Worth Beleivin' ".
Mariah Carey (I don't wanna hear it! :D ) - "My Love For You" and "Shadows" (as long as she doesn't invite a rapper or R&B it up too much. ;) ) James Taylor - "Triangle" Neil Diamond - "Poor Little Allison" I can hear him in my head right now doing that one. If Jim Morrison was still alive,I'd have loved to hear his & The Doors renditon of "Protocol",if he dared to do a cover that is. (No controversy please) If MJ were still popular,I think he could do a really funky,"Baby Step Back" ala "Billie Jean". I would also like to hear younger artist Norah Jones do a really mellow,"I'll Tag Along". I guess that's about it for now. Later! |
Jim Morrison, doing "Protocol". Yes I can see that.
What about, Ozzie Osbourne or Marilyn Manson doing, "The Pony Man".lol :D :D :D :D :D :D [ August 15, 2006, 18:29: Message edited by: Jesse -Joe ] |

Sorry Timetraveler, No I was just joking as I often do. Marylin Manson is a smart man. Not dangerous at all, but can you picture him doing The Pony Man? I would really get a laugh out of that. Whats new with you, other than answering these posts? JJ.

Whilst he is not a huge favourite of mine
I always fancied the idea of Frank Sinatra covering "That Same Old Obsession" which I have always regarded as Gord's nearest attempt to emulate Ol' Blue Eyes. And unless I am mistaken didn't Frankie once admit defeat in trying to interpret IYCRMM "His Way"?? Ok that is my serious answer Other thoughts Dolly Parton MAGNIFICENT OUTPOURING George Michael I'D DO IT AGAIN Juice Newton (ANYTHING)...FOR LOVE [ August 18, 2006, 09:07: Message edited by: johnfowles ] |

http://www.corfid.com/gl/press/press51.htm It is writ as follows aboot Gord:- "But he also was part of the mainstream music business -- if only because he was signed to Reprise, the label founded by Frank Sinatra. "I had a very profound respect for Mr. Sinatra," he says. In fact, Sinatra nearly recorded several of his songs. "There was talk of it, and an attempt was made to do 'If You Could Read My Mind,' but it wasn't working for him," Lightfoot says. "Another time, I got a phone call from Frank Sinatra, and he asked me to put together a package for him, and I did; I put together five tunes that are in my catalog, but they didn't rise to the occasion either. I was very honored, though, that he would have asked." If Sinatra never recorded a Lightfoot tune, there were plenty who did." John Fowles And now of course the $64,000 question "What were those 5 "tunes""?? Discuss!!! [ August 18, 2006, 13:41: Message edited by: johnfowles ] |

How about Gloria Estafan doing "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"?

I think "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" would be the only one that would fit but "Soft, romantic, as well as sensual," that is exactly what the fit is. I have her "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" cd and from there alone is proof enough. Check it out.

I think Chris Martin from Coldplay would do a nice version of "Beautiful"

Gloria Estefan couldn't do "The First Time..."?
She's just as good at doing ballads as she is with the upbeat material. Ever heard "Here We Are","Don't Wanna Lose You" and "Anything For You"? No,I imagined Rod Stewart's voice and him singing "P.W.-C.T" but it doesn't sound very good. He's better with pop & rock and I only like his ballads,"You're In My Heart" & "Broken Arrow". That may seem AC to you but most radio people think of Gordon that way anyhow. Better her than Courtney Love or Britney Spears! Hmmmmmm....how about ultra-noisy ( & scary  )Slipknot doing "Gotta Get Away" or "Fading Away"?? :D :D LOL! |
